The upper arched-topped sashes in the octagon tower have not been in place for a very long time. The sashes have now been restored, and today I managed to get a pair back in place. Excitement level? High. Oh, and see the diamond-paned sashes in the dormer? Those were installed recently, too, after having also been missing for ages. Little by little…
Ross, she’s getting prettier and prettier every day!
The fruit of your labor is accumulating in a vision of grace and beauty.
Thank you!
And just imagine when the porch railings return! This year! And, I hope, the porch lattice! I am counting the days!
And there will be much rejoicing!
Are you referring to the short but historically accurate railings??? I am looking forward to them on your behalf, getting the railings and lattice back in place will be like icing the cake!
That is just what I am referring to! My excitement is great!
Have you decided yet what color(s) you will paint the railings? From the old pictures, it looks like the top and bottom horizontal rails were light, and the spindles were dark. Since you painted the columns dark, maybe reverse the colors on the railings? I think that dark top and bottom rails would make the light spindles really stand out…just a thought. I’m sure that they will look great!
In the post-Civil War South, there was a saying about the (deservedly) ruined gentility: “Too poor to paint, too proud to whitewash”. How lucky for the grand old lady of Emporia that her new owner is daily renewing her pride. What a gift to Union Street! I hope the speed limits are low or gawker fender-benders are sure to result.
