Astonishing Sconces

There was a lighting company during the 1920s and 1930s called Riddle. Of Toledo, Ohio.

They sold a LOT of lighting. But I know almost nothing about them even though I have sold a lot of Riddle fixtures over the years.

I thought I had seen all the fixtures Riddle produced over the decades so imagine my great surprise and delight when I came across…

…a pair of astonishing sconces by Riddle.

I have never seen anything quite like them.

Rich with detail, too. This is all typically Riddle.

Made of aluminum, the sconces retain their original polychrome highlights, worn but still lovely.

Just. So. Cool.

That is unique. It is reminiscent of the downward-facing cast chandeliers popular in the 20s and 30s. Perhaps this was part of a family of that type?
