Eighteen Moderne Sconces!

Moderne is an aesthetic which developed after the Art Deco period. This aesthetic was relatively short lived, and reached the height of its popularity in the late 1930s. Emerald City, in the movie Wizard of Oz, is Moderne gone Hollywood.

Many lighting fixtures labeled Art Deco are more accurately Moderne, such as a matched set of eighteen sconces I purchased. Yes, eighteen! Incredible!

The sconces are mostly brass. The main bodies have a lovely patina — almost bronze-like. There are bright brass filigree accents. Stunning.

Each fixture accepts a single 60W bulb, and this light is directed up, creating a lovely effect.

To have a set of so many matching vintage sconces is quite incredible.
