Whaddya Think? UPDATE UPDATE
I am fascinated by photo-shop! Wow. Wow! THANKS Melody!
These images are incredibly helpful. For, I now know, thanks to Melody, that I do not want to proceed with image #3. This is too busy and veers dangerously close to my biggest fear: having the Cross House look cartoony.
I am kinda 60% in favor of image #2. And 40% in favor of doing nothing more (image #1).
What do you think?

There seems to be so much detail in the medallion, I don’t think any of it will be visible on the ground.
It is a conundrum.
I vote #2
Keeps it from being a big green blob, but it’s subtle enough to not look cheesy.
I have to say that my vote would be #2.
I would have initially thought I would like #3 better, but with that amazing photo shop feature, I’m definitely leaning to #2. But if it involves another scary day in the boom. I would leave it alone… I’m terrified of heights, so i would be tapping out of this one. ????
I like 2 a lot. It looks like an eye to me.
My favorite is the all green.
To me, number 2 looks the best. It brings out the detail but steers clear of the 1970s idea of the painted lady victorian. It highlights the glorious detail and care given to the exterior without being altacky or over powering
#2
#2 ????
#2. From the ground it will look different. It will just accent the detail without being cheesy. It is three stories up, so part of the light inner ring will be obscured. It will be just enough to show that there is indeed that detail of three rings.
I meant to say number three! With the inner ring also painted.
#2. Just enough to bring out the detail but #3 is just a step too far.
I don’t think that #3 & additional detail will look much different than #2 when taking in the whole or looking at a distance. Cross House is so immense that the differences will fade & only the lovely contrast will remain.
YES!! #2 Whatta difference.
I vote for image #1. LESS IS MORE…I would rather see a bold architectural statement rather then a fussy detailed madallion.
#2
The all-green does not show detail enough…painting the leaves is just right…a lacy effect …but the ring is more busy…my vote!
I vote image #2. Makes the eye stand out more.
I just looked at the Cross House on google maps again. The eye shows the way it was when you bought the house. It would be fun if you put a close up of the way it was in a post with your new alternatives because it shows how one can put too many colors on it. I think that you could make a light weight casting of the eye to sell. I know that I would want one. I might drill a hole in the middle, run some tubing to it, hang it on a wall over a pool or pond and have a great fountain. I could use it as a simple sculpture inside or outside of my house. Anyone could paint it to their own color scheme.
– Yesterday I was looking at a video on making molds from a company that sells the products for doing so.You could use this process to make a casting of the eye. Link to video: https://www.smooth-on.com/tutorials/reproducing-3-sculpture-brush-40-mold-rubber/
– I have not used this product, nor determined that it is the best choice for making a mold of the eye. I am just putting it out there as a possibility. Just throwing out ideas.
Of these voices, I like #2, also. But I wonder what it would look like to make the “rope” ring the lighter color.
I also like # 2. I almost hate to mention this because it may take your attention away from something more important that you may be working on, but…… Have you ever thought of adding some wall color to the stamped tin around the 3 stained glass windows. I had thought when you you first painted it that a bit of contrast would make it pop.
Thank you for all you do. Have a wonderful day!
I say #1, the do nothing option.
Well, once again I have been proven wrong. I have a tendency to always want to go a little overboard. After seeing the photoshops, I definitely like #2 better! Seems very elegant, but under stated to me.
I vote #2!
NO! It makes a statement of “Look at me – today I’m this color – next week I might just be something else” instead of making the statement of “I’m a landmark and I will be stable and you can always count on me being this”
I would say option one. Originally I was leaning towards two and even three, but considering it’s loction and distance from the casual observer one is the best choice. In addition I thought, this is the cross house, simplicity and understated elegance should take presidence, plus I really like the green.
I think I’d go with #2. But, why not paint it as you have it in #3 and see what it looks like from the ground. If you don’t like it, paint over the extra ring. After all, it is just paint, you can always paint it over!…..says he who would not climb up that high for love or money!
My vote is for #2 because this will highlight the details more. I wonder if the narrow green ring would be noticeable from the ground and only see the wide lighter color
Numbah 2!!! All day long!
I have to agree with Nikki – image #2 with the inner rope ring painted also. I really see nothing “cartoonish” about this at all. I think this is giving the medallion depth, almost a 3-D image.
My vote is for keeping it all green (as is) to maintain consistency with the solid green in the 5 panel arched windows below it. Aside from the swags in the turret there is no place else where detail has been ‘highlighted’ by contrasting paint (think previous burgundy scroll work by previous owner), rather you’ve been pretty consistent to paint all trim and embellishment dark green of which ‘the eye’ certainly fits into.
