Should I???????? NEWS FLASH!

So, y’all remember the latest love of my life?

I wrote the seller thanking her for her time, and that I was going to pass on the set due to the total cost ($1850 price + $1300 shipping = $3150).

She works with another shipper, a much smaller company than the company I contacted. They responded with a $450 shipping quote to St. Louis. I can drive the 5.5 hours there to pick it up. The seller also offered to reduce her price to $1650, for a total cost to me of $2100. Basically, a third less.

I would need to receive a quote directly from the shipper, and would have to read online reviews, of course.

But…if these last details work out…

Awesome! Go for it!!! (This is also coming from the girl who wants to spend $185 on a Barbie Dream house from her childhood. 🙂 LOL)
On a more serious note, if it something haunts me that much it’s definitely worth the investment in my opinion.

      A Barbie Dream house?

You have to go for it, Marjie!

      • Marjie on January 28, 2020 at 7:17 pm

Haha, I’m going to check the thrift store tomorrow and see if it’s still there. If it’s still there, it’s coming home with me. 🙂

Marjie, You GO Girl! I completely relate and must add GET IT and ENJOY it!!! I have an extensive collection and truly enjoy collecting vintage Barbie. 🙂 I truly believe she is responsible for my love of Midcentury Modern architecture and engrained within me my hoarding instincts (haha)! She was no minimalist and fine-honed my enabling acquisition skills. Good luck!

      • Bill H on January 28, 2020 at 5:29 pm

True story, Ross! A trip to Emporia to see the house (hopefully, this Summer). But, if I can help with this, I’m all in! You can access emails via the links in these comments?

If it’s meant to be yours it will work out. Otherwise, the right set will come to you when it is time.

    • Ross on January 28, 2020 at 5:23 pm

      Agreed, Amy!

That is still more than what I would want to pay for something that could get damaged i transit. Decision yours though. Excited to see you are going to do Airbnb. I would love to plan a visit to Euphoria, coming all the way from Brisbane, Australia. Do you think you will be open for business by August 2021

    • Ross on January 28, 2020 at 5:23 pm

      August, 2021?

      Yes, I think so!

What a delight it would be to meet you, Linda!

Shipping more reasonable, but still far away. I’d contact someone near you Ross, and see what they charge.

If you love it you love it, and it has stayed with you for a few days, I think you should go for it!
We share this crazy propensity for beauty and perfect proportions. It’s a blessing and a curse. BUT the daily joy of having/seeing something that you love like this and it makes you happy is actually “priceless “ as they used to say in that awful MasterCard ad.

I am all about getting a good deal ( I have to with my taste level…) and it sounds like you have found a good deal. Go with your gut, but it think… do it!

    • Marjie on January 28, 2020 at 7:20 pm

Well said! I have that wonderful eye for quality and the price tag that follows…. it’s a rotten existence sometimes, but that’s life and I have collected some amazing treasures as a result.

Just a thought…check with Thomas Transfer and see if they’re moving anyone to/from that vicinity…

If I was still in Missouri Ross, I would take a couple of days off, rent a U-haul and pick it up for you and drive it out to Emporia. You could treat me to a Radius and some ice cream!

But alas, I live in Youngstown now.

I hope you get it and drive carefully!

    Great news!
Now, with the $$$ that you ate saving, You can also buy #2!

Possibly more important than how much you personally love either of these sets of furniture is the question of whether or not you will be able to stand seeing them damaged by paying guests.

In a society that seems to have grown up with Formica tops or polyurethane finishes, your guests might not have a clue that period finishes will damage with a spill of hot tea, coffee, a wet mug set down, a hot mug set down, or a wet towel tossed over the foot board or dresser top. A splash of alcohol based cologne, after shave, hand sanitizer or eye glass cleaning wipe.

I live in North Carolina and years ago, bought a LOT of furniture from this particular seller. If this gives you any peace of mind, I can attest to the fact that they are great to work with and will go above and beyond to make this work for you. Good luck – whatever you decide I hope it all works for the best.
