Wanna Help Save A Castle?
In 2014, I did a post about Balintore Castle. Its owner, David, purchased the castle in 2007. Its condition was so terrifying that only a madman would take on such a project. Particularly when not rich.
For years I have kept up with David’s progress on his blog. He, too, subscribes to my Baby Step™ method of working, and I have enjoyed his incremental but steady achievements. Last year, he was at last able to complete the kitchen wing as an Airbnb suite.
When I experience pangs of being overwhelmed restoring the Cross House, I often think of David and feel better. For, what he is doing requires WAY more work and effort than what I am doing. The Cross House seems like a piece of cake compared to Balintore Castle.
When David purchased the castle it had been abandoned for decades, with most of its windows missing, huge holes in the roofs, and with much of its flooring collapsed.
Today, all the roofing has been repaired and restored, and shimmering glass now fills the huge window openings.
In the center of the castle is the “Saloon”, a massive three-level-high space.

See the saloon? Right, center? (All the castle floor plans are here.)

When David purchased the castle in 2007, the Saloon was a ruin. The ceiling had largely collapsed, and the windows were largely missing. The roof has since been repaired, and the Saloon made tight from the weather.
Yesterday though, David created a GoFundMe to help restore the Saloon. He did so after being “pestered beyond human endurance by some delightful Spanish visitors.”
I could not be more delighted!
So, if you have been following David’s breathtaking endeavor, you might enjoy being able to help in a tangible way. Or, perhaps the romance of a Scottish castle will inspire!
People like David thrill me. The world needs more such madmen. And madwomen.

You know…I always wanted a castle…. when I was a little girl! My dreams settled down a bit as I grew older realizing what castles cost. I wish David well on his great adventure in the most beautiful castle. And if I had millions, after I fully funded Ross at Cross House, I would see David well too! Ah! to dream!
I love that blog! Count me in. Yes, he has taken on a huge task!
Yes, David is a delight. Glad that he has a GoFundMe account. Will be donating today.
