I admire your Inching Along! All the work adds up to a job well done. So wonderful the house has you. You have saved the place, otherwise it would have gone to total ruin. You have made sure Cross House will still be secure in another hundred years. WOW!
I just can’t help wondering what would have become of the house if someone had bought it and just paid a painting company to put a cost of paint on it. It would have been done in a couple of days, and on the surface it would look better. But what underlying issues would have been covered over to the detriment of the future of the house? I know you probably get tired of the ongoing inching, but the long-term good you’re doing the house is immeasurable!
Oooh, “The Cross-MacTaggart House”! I likey! Just rolls off the tongue. And so deserved! When I lived in my big Queen Anne everybody in town would say, ” Oh! You are the owners of the Cavett House? “. We lived there for 25 years and it was still known as the Cavett house! But I kinda liked that! Now I live in the “Ed Alpi House”! Go figure! But he did build the house and lived here for 64 years! So I kinda like it!
Same here, Linda 🙂 Dr. Burkhart passed away in 1966, and we still live in “his house”. I like that people feel a certain possessiveness of our house; when we started restoring the exterior three years ago, I was amazed at how many people stopped to find out what our intentions were, LOL.
Much better!
The house is looking beautiful!

I am being 100% serious when I state that this house should be forever known as “The Cross-MacTaggart House”.
💯 agree!

I don’t know. I have known MacTaggart to get cross (generally re: politics), but I would hate for him to be labeled as “Old Cross Man MacTaggart”. 🙂
Hahaha David!
Yet another delicious bite taken out of this project. Inch by inch this house is being made right again.
Inching along and blog’s sixth anniversary! Congratulations and greetings from Nicaragua
Oooh, job well done.
I agree the Cross-MacTaggart House has a nice ring to it.
