An Exciting De Lacey Report!

A few years ago I fell in love with this wallpaper, De Lacey by Graham & Brown, UK.

I wanted the paper for the Long Bedroom, which will be mine. But, it was discontinued like five minutes before I went to order it. Drat! Drat!

Two rolls were found on eBay, so I purchased them. My thought was that I could at least do a wall in my bathroom.

About a year later, I was able to purchase three more rolls on eBay! Squee!

And yesterday? SIX rolls on eBay! I snapped them up.

So, will eleven rolls do the bedroom? There are only two walls really, the rest being two doors, one mantel, and five windows.

The curtains were ordered several years ago:

Magdelena black & cognac damask curtains from HalfPriceDrapes. I fell in love with them.

What is curious about all this is that I do not normally do black. I am also trend adverse, and black is all the rage right now. Sigh.

Black is also soooooo not a good color for the five stained-glass windows in the room. However, the drapes, in particular, will well complement…

…the 1950s Hollywood-Regency R-Way dresser and matching mirror.

The mirror is framed in ugly/delicious gold-veined mirror! Note also the huge Hollywood-Regency chandelier I purchased for the room.

More ugly/delicious with the dresser top!

There are three such windows on the north wall. To assure that they fit in with the decor, my cunning plan is to order a rich blue area rug, and a green duvet cover. I will paint the ceiling a very pale lavender. The stained-glass caming is black so that should also help in pulling the windows in.

I sure hope all this works! If it does, the effect should be dramatic and stunning!

Ross is excited!

I agree, once all finished, I think it will be very stunning. Very exciting at this point!

    Hi Ross,

Are the dye lots the same on the rolls? If not, are you concerned that they will match up?

I was thinking the same thing. If not, it will be very notable on the wall!

Wheee, the shapes are repeated on the stained glass, curtain, mirror, wallpaper!

I can visualize exterior paint colors on a home and imagine how it will look, but I don’t have a decorator’s eye once I go in the house, LOL; based on everything else I have seen you do, I know it will look great when you are done. We had wallpaper similar to this in our dining room, black background with silver, and my wife used light gray and a very pale green with it and it looked good. It didn’t look as dark as you would expect, and I think it will make your stained glass really stand out during the day. I’m looking forward to seeing pictures of the finished room!

So, which room will you work on this winter, the Long room or the Octagon room or maybe both?

I am thinking 9 rolls may not be enough. That is a large room, the wallpaper has a large repeat pattern, and there is
a lot of waste with many doors and windows…it will be interesting. Maybe just an accent wall, or 3/4 of the way
down all around with the bottom of the wall painted. Once, in a bedroom with 10 ft. ceilings, I went from the
baseboard up , stopping 20 inches below the ceiling and put up picture rail. I painted the walls the background
color of the paper ( ivory). Looked great and made the bedroom feel a bit more cozy with the illusion that the
ceiling went to where your eye stopped at the top of the wallpaper. Though I do love tall ceiling heights! I remember that the wallpaper had a busy, large print and was very expensive , so I saved a little money by not running the paper all the way to the ceiling as well.

      Thank you, Linda!

The lower half of the west wall will have a built-in headboard across its width.

And, there will be a picture rail around the whole room about 20-inches below the ceiling. The wallpaper will be below the rail.

And, again, there are two doors, a mantle and overmantel, and five windows.

In short, there is not a lot of wall to paper for such a large room. I hope!

Hi Ross, This is not about the bedroom, but I was wondering when your gofundme page will be functioning again. Thanks!

Yikes! I’ve contacted GFM about the problem. Thanks, Debby!

While you are pondering bedding, soft furnishings and end tables you may want to visit sites like Ruelala or Gilt. While they focus on clothing primarily they also have a high end discounted home section.
