What Price Beauty? Part III
So….
…soapstone sink. THREE quotes now. All including shipping:
Vermont Soapstone: $3,315
Canadian Soapstone: $2,400
And new quote:
LaCour Stoneworks: $2,200.
Obviously the latest price is the best. Curiously though, I did not contact the company. I did contact Teixeira Soapstone (at Kerri’s suggestion). However, LaCour, in Colorado, responded.
A worry about Canadian (as mentioned by Jackie) is that the import duties might prove scary.
Well, Ross excited by the new quote!

Find out where the soapstone is being sourced. From my understanding there is little or no US quarried stone these days. I believe most stone sold in the US today comes from Brazil. If you’re fine with that, then that’s cool. Also, ensure the colour. If you want stone that is similar to the American stone that was common in Victorian times, then go with the Canadian sourced stone. It’s quarried ‘up the road’ from the New England quarries from that era.
I wouldn’t expect there to be any import duties. We do have that thing formally known as NAFTA and Trump’s trumped up ‘security’ duties applied to steel and aluminum, not stone as far as I know. (Has Biden repealed those yet, or is he also happy to steal, sorry tax, the American people under the guise of nationalism?). Double check of course but expect the only thing you would have to pay would be state retail tax, but you’d have to pay that anyway.
