A Journey Of A Thousand Miles Begins With…A Fourth Step
Both windows originally looked out under the 1921 porch so they would have received almost no light. And no direct sun. But now, with the porch gone, west sun pours into the basement.
I love sunlight.

I do too!!!! That basement is SO happy!
That grim twin will look purty once you are done with it.
As for the missing glass pane, the restored window looked like it was never damaged at all. Well done!
Those are beautiful windows, both inside and out. Removing that porch/deck had to be done. The smaller deck really works well. It’s a good size for entering the house and drawing attention to the entrance, plus the basement windows become a feature on the outside and provide great light inside the basement. Not only that, but the basement windows have a pretty good view. That makes all the difference if the basement becomes a work space.
I am so excited to see the progress with all of these teasers. I can visualize that deck finished with some plants in beautiful ceramic pots.
I am trying to recall what you said your plans were for the front entrance, it seems like you mentioned relocating it around the corner from the projecting bay at one time. I think that would work, as long as you installed a window under the bay to balance the appearance of the front first floor wall. I would assume that those plans, if still in the long-term scheme, are on hold for now, since you must get the place livable ASAP for your new assistant.
Yes, Mike. The porch will be shifted to the NW corner. There was a porch there originally.
Under the turret will be a window matching the window to the far right.
I anticipate doing this work in 2022.
Wow – what wonderful light in there now! 🙂
Yay!
Journey begins…..
