Smashing! Beautifully proportioned room now that extraneous openings are closed, great window treatment to showcase the leaded glass. I look forward to the Cody/Ross lighting choices.
One of the regretful characteristics of the modern age is the ambivalence of younger people toward the “brown furniture” that characterized middle- and upper-class houses half a century ago, with a room dedicated as a dining room where the old family plate, china, bourgeois furniture etc. was displayed and used for entertainment of notable guests, and the family on Sundays and festive occasions.
Upside is that such furniture, china, plate is cheap, readily available and can make a fine show.
I’m dealing with prior owners’ aversion to wood right now, stripping off layers of cheap paint from what are turning out to be teak dining chairs (I’d assumed most likely plywood, which would have also been fine). What were they thinking????

I love the wood trim and wish my house had it. I have trim and it was painted when I moved in. I stripped a bit from the window and hit bare wood and not very nice. It had been painted all along and wasn’t worth stripping, staining and varnishing. But I have my wood. I did remove the awful carpet and had the floors refinished and I did buy some wonderful vintage wood pieces from the 20s and 30s. I have a nice English Art Deco sideboard, a waterfall table and four chairs and some inlaid veneer side tables and matching coffee table. Also two vintage clocks with wood cases. I have wood in all of the rooms, mostly vintage pieces from the 20s-40s.

Now if you want an inexpensive alternative to just painting the floor, you could try a “brown paper” floor. You can google the process, but essentially it’s Kraft paper, torn into large pieces, crumpled up an then glued to the floor, stained (optional) and then several coats of water-based varathane over it. Gives the look of aged leather, or cork. We did this on our basement stairs almost 5 years ago, and they’re still the same as they were when we finished them.
I know someone who did this to their bathroom / laundry room walls in a contemporary home. Artsy and attractive. Durable too.
What colors did you guys use? What a fabulous space this is turning into.
