Today, the Biden administration announced $350 million in military aid to Ukraine.

Last Friday, the White House asked Congress for $6.4 billion to aid Ukraine.

Last Thursday, Biden approved the deployment of 7,000 additional troops to Germany to help NATO forces.

And…Biden didn’t demand any favors, first.

Thank goodness for Biden and the Dems right now. Can you imagine what would be happening if Trump had won?

My heart is still breaking for the Ukrainians.

I just hope these measures are not too late. The Ukrainians are totally outnumbered and Putin seems bent on their destruction. I am both angry as hell and so completely sad.

Ross, I wantyou to know how much I love your house, how much I admire the heart and soul you are putting into this beautiful of lady, and litterally saving her life. And I appreciate the trouble and time it takes you to let us follow along and maintain your blog.
Now i’m gonna say the other thing…

I hate the divisiveness of politics. I admire passion in all forms, but when it includes rage it makes me uncomfortable.
I come to this thread for the uplifing battle of saving something worth saving. And your real struggle to success. Not for political commentary.

Is there a way to include another thread in your website. You have blogs for your lighting and yauts can you make a political one?

I know this is yours and you can do whatever you like, but there have been many much more political posts than posts about Cross or the carriage house lately.

I hope you’ll think about it.

    Much respect!

I am not Ross, so you can take or leave this comment as you see fit. Telling a gay man “I don’t want to hear about your politics” is the very height of privilege. If you don’t think part of Ross’s (and other gay men and LGBT folks) “real struggle to success” isn’t intricately entwined with politics – the politics of this country and of who they are – then you might want to do some reading on the topic.

Aside from that, to come into someone’s home (their blog) and tell them that you want them to stop talking about the things that effect them is pretty darned rude, IMO.

Ross has always prefaced his political posts with a warning and a long spoiler space, so you can very easily simply skip the posts you don’t want to read. Again, IMO.

An again, not to speak for Ross, just my own thoughts on the matter.

Thank you for this comment, Kara. I am a reader, not generally a commenter. I am also a gay man and reading the comment you replied to really struck me. Republicans currently are trying to destroy the rights of many. I encourage Ross to post even more about politics. It educates those who may not be informed, and his eloquence is rare.

        • Kara on February 26, 2022 at 12:34 pm

          Don – Agreed!

As to the original post: fear of being made “uncomfortable” is what is leading Republicans to ban books and outlaw the teaching of our actual, real history.

The answer is not to shut down the source, but to examine why it makes that person uncomfortable and what THEY can do to fix it.

        Hi, Kara!

        Thank you. BIG hug.

And please note that chamqual did not ask me to stop mentioning politics. Chamqual only wanted to know if I could create a separate category for it, separate from the Cross House, which is chamqual’s main interest.

As you can see though from chamqual’s later comment, chamqual figured out that my political posts already are in a separate category.

        • Kara on February 26, 2022 at 1:20 pm

Ross – that’s a fair point and I apologize to Chamqual for misreading their post.

    • Ross on February 26, 2022 at 12:21 pm

      Dear chamqual,

You wrote: “I hate the divisiveness of politics.”

      Well, I do, too!

While divisiveness has always been part of politics, in my lifetime this has grown exponentially.

It began in the 1990s when Newt Gingrich, instead of just having differing views than Democrats, decided that the Democrats were the anti-Christ and should be destroyed.

In 1996, Fox News was founded. This was not long after Reagan destroyed the fairness doctrine:

The fairness doctrine of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, was a policy that required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that fairly reflected differing viewpoints.

As such, the kind of balance and civility which was the hallmark of news when I was a child…vanished, and Fox picked up the Gingrich mantle and ran with it. Regular viewers of Fox would soon come to believe that Democrats were the anti-Christ and intent on destroying America and all that was decent.

In the Senate, Mitch McConnell also picked up the Gingrich mantle and ran with it, doing everything possible to undercut and destroy anything proposed by Democrats.

And Rush Limbaugh made his career by endlessly demonizing Liberals and Democrats.

      Then Trump…

The horror of all this is that when Republicans criticize Democrats, their criticism is almost never attached to reality. It’s almost always made-up outrage.

Contrast this with my fact-based criticism of the GOP. The party IS:
Against a women’s right to her own body.
      Against the LGBTQ community.
Against history being taught in school.
Against people being able to vote.
      Against protecting the global environment.
Against helping the American people save giving tax breaks to the very richest.
      And against democracy.

This is all real. And this enrages me. As it should all good people.

Do I spend all my time in a rage? Certainly not. But to experience rage is vital during these dangerous times.

Also, my political posts ARE in a separate category: Other Cool Things. These posts are wholly separate from Restoring The Cross House. They also normally come with a warning: This is a political post.

I must also ask: Why would you scroll down a post titled DEMOCRATS DOING THE RIGHT THING if you don’t want to learn about my politics.

You can easily ignore all my political posts. It’s your choice.

      BIG hug!

” But to experience rage is vital during these dangerous times.”

So very much this! If you aren’t enraged right now then you’re not paying attention!!

      • chamqual on February 26, 2022 at 1:33 pm

        *return hug*

I am not a Republican, just to be clear.

        Thanks for your time Ross.

I certainly hope “Can you do me a favor though” is brought up for the 2022 and 2024 elections along with ALL of the rest. If there was ever a time to fight mud with mud, these two upcoming elections will be the ones. Because sometimes the public doesn’t process subtle and has poor retention. Taking the high road isn’t working any more and fire needs to be fought with fire. Maybe at some point in the future courtesy may return to U.S. politics but with the current leadership’s goals of creating a one-party nation, I think the priority should be protecting Democracy, not the bragging rights to we didn’t stoop to the gutter, the gutter from which the winners keep getting elected.

Ross, it’s me again. I looked harder and saw that is exactly what you are doing-ish. Can you please be so kind as to tell me how to stop getting email updates of posts not about cross house?
Thanks for the assistance. I’d erase the above, and you can feel free, but I don’t see that option. Thanks in advance!

    • Ross on February 26, 2022 at 12:23 pm

      Hello again, chamqual.

There’s no way you can get X updates on my blog but not Y or Z.

But, I offered a solution in my previous comment.

Nothing to say but yes, I agree. Thank you.
