I see the tarpaper. I see the drip edge. I see the boards inching their way up. I see much old flaky paint sanded off.
Remember you don’t have the entire time they gave you because….weather. I don’t know why the inspectors always choose the hottest months of the year to make you go outside when you’re doing the work yourself but they do. Where I am it is August, September and October. For you it’s earlier, at least this year, if you’re already getting weather in the 90s.
If you can get this wall done and do some last minute paint slapping on the rest, I think the city will leave you alone to get it done slow and correct. After all, you are not a greedy absentee landlord forcing your tenants to live in subpar code squalor.
I’m sad to say that if this house WAS owned by a greedy absentee landlord, the city would likely do nothing, especially if a tenant complained. I love my hometown, but the stuff the city lets its landlords get away with is shameful.
Agreed. They seem to pick on the little people who are law abiding citizens and will comply without resistance and pay up without question. I know by looking around my neighborhood with equal or worse code violations that are never cited or rectified.
Hi Ross,
I’m not sure how to get a hold of you so I’m going to try this. I recently bought a chair and I’m wondering if you would like it for the Cross House. I have pictures but I’m not sure how to attach them. If you email me I will send them to you. Let me know? Thank you!
Slow and steady wins the race
