Carriage House Inchin’

The second floor in the Carriage House has two bathrooms: 1) the Turret Bath and the 2) Main Bath. When I purchased the Cross properties in 2014, the latter had just had a new Home Depot 12×12 ceramic tile floor installed. Yes, say after me: oh, the horror. So, for all these years I have wondered if a nice old floor was encapsulated under? Thus, the hunt began.

And a big YES was revealed: The circa-1921 conversion flooring. You can see in the upper left an old repair. But, as bad as this looks, it will be lovely once refinished. And vastly better (Ross takes a big gulp of wine) than the Home Depot horror. The plumbing has since been moved to inside the wall.

With vanity in place. It is not connected yet so it can be removed to refinish the floor. A great hunt ensued to find the backsplash. The faucet is a cheap kitchen faucet reused. For now.

Another hunt ensued to find the Turret Bath backsplash. Whew! Cannot afford faucet right now.

All those Baby Steps(TM) are adding up to big progress. I need to make a trip to Emporia soon to see it in person!

Nice stripped floorboards. Lovely contrast with the sink cabinet. The Turret Bath Backsplash? Oh the stories it could tell.
