The prevailing mindset over the course of the entire restoration has been that of a preference to lean into certain detail items and elements that are distinctly new and that may look slightly out of place so as not to confuse the uneducated guest or visitor about the “historical narrative” of the property, sometimes at the detriment of aesthetics.
We’re allergic to reproduction push button switches on this platform.
I love push-button switches but they were introduced around 1915, so, not right for the Cross House. My sister had them in her 1920s bungalow and they looked great.
The Cross House originally only had 2 light switches in the entire house, both in situ and working!
Wish they were made in numerous colors and easy to find. That said, you can order all sorts of designs but those or expensive. I like the talavera tile imitations and those would work nicely in my old miners house in SW AZ near the border. You can get real talavera ceramic ones but sizes are limited.
It looks good. But- wouldn’t brass or bronze be more typical?

My house is full of them. Since I have grown up with the modern type switches, having pushbutton switches are super cool.

And I thought they were of much older vintage.
Wait, which two switches are those? I’m guessing one is for the telephone closet, but where’s the other one?
The porte-cochère, Brian.
Cody, I’m confused.
You replied to Michael but he never mentioned push button switches.
Hi, Michael!
The point of my post isn’t what the cover plate is made of, but rather the fact that I finally got a cover plate!
I guess I am just a fussbudget.
Yes, we know that about you, Michael.
And we love you for it!

Woo hoo, a beautiful balance of color.
