A Breathtaking Update About Peacocks!

Truly, I am breathless.

A while back I did a post about finding some 1970s peacock wallpaper, and the powerful memories it invoked. If you have not read the post, I think you will enjoy it.

This great find though was but a single roll. Enough to do one wall in the first-floor bathroom.

The plan was to paint the other three walls in a complementary color, as I knew I would never find more of the paper.

But….but…the God’s seem to have a particular affection for the Cross House, and LO AND BEHOLD…I found three more rolls! Three! THREE! Zounds! Incredible!

And golly!

The single roll of precious peacocks.

The three rolls. It is obvious that the three are a different colorway than the one. It is also obvious that the Gods, thus, have a sense of humor. No matter, I can make this work! I now have enough for all four walls!

    Ross,

I have just spent the most enjoyable few afternoons reading your adventures at the Cross House from start to finish!

We bought our old house in October 2002. It’s a brick Gothic Revival, built in 1848, and it was the dream house that I pined for since I first saw it 10 years before. It took us five years to get it to the point where we could move in. We are far from finished (that’s our version of the “F” word). There’s not a whole lot that I haven’t refinished, restored, or replaced in this old place. Walls, woodwork, floors, electrical, roofing, masonry, plumbing, HVAC, barn, outbuildings … everything! I know this house and property intimately, top to bottom, end to end.

As I read your stories of discoveries, accomplishments, frustrations, and triumphs, it was as if I was reliving my own. I feel that I must thank you, because you got me thinking and have provided motivation for me to begin the preliminary work to see what I can accomplish in our living room … which is the room that, ten years ago, we made the conscious decision to defer, as it was going to take a disproportionate amount of time, energy, and $$$ away from the rest of the house.

I now will eagerly await any new posts with updates on the Cross House.

Hi, Ross! Did you ever apply this wonderful peacock wallpaper? Obviously, I’m a latecomer to your blog but am feeling reeled in now. I have always loved old houses and appreciate folks like you that bring them back to their glory.

      Not yet!

      And welcome, Fonda!

No words for how much I love this wallpaper. I saw it on your Circa YouTube interview and had to come here and find the post to see if it had been installed. Can’t wait to see. Priceless!
