A Limpy Update

Every night, I haul Limpy up to my desktop so he can have some quality snuggle time with daddy. He seems to enjoy this. Daddy sure does. Limpy will often start purring and kneading my belly with his paws. Daddy likes this, too.

And effort is extended to assure that Limpy’s every comfort is assured, like having a pillow to prop his head up a bit when he is on his bed. He clearly likes this.

Limpy is on the mend, bite-wise. His neck wound grew ever-terrifying, and most of the surrounding hair fell out. But, the hole in the skin, which grew and grew, suddenly started shrinking and is now smaller than it was in the beginning. I expect that it will close up soon.

Tomorrow, he will get his last dose of antibiotics. I will watch him carefully for any signs of infection.

Limpy is a remarkable cat. How he survived the year is a mystery. He managed to:

  • Get into the fenced cat yard.
  • During the cold winter, he got down the stone basement steps…how?…and into the winter cat house where there was food and water. All this with badly injured legs and open leg wounds.
  • At the time I had no idea this was happening. It was Justin who said to me: “Oh. I’ve been meaning to mention that there’s an injured gray cat in your basement cat house.” I went right down to the basement but found no injured gray cat. He had obviously climbed back up the steps…how?…and wandered off…how?
  • Weeks passed before I discovered Limpy on my deck one morning.
  • And now, as these words are written, Limpy is in my office, sleeping on his cat bed (with pillow), on the floor, and adjacent to me. What a remarkable journey he has had this year.

We call that kneading on the belly ” makin’ biscuits”.

Limpy is in heaven living with you Ross.

I am SO glad he is getting better.

My big old main coon cat got attacked by an owl? Hawk??( both known to have carried off small dogs in our neighborhood!!) Or fought off a raccoon soon after we moved to a more rural area.
Besides being traumatized and having to then become an inside cat only/mostly…
The vet said Bubba also had tendon damage to a hind leg and would maybe never walk or especially ever jump again because cats need their back legs for that action.

Well that was 3-years ago and Bubba is now 16 years old and is able to jump up on everything…and walk and run…albeit not as easily as when he was a young stud! Lol.

Limpy definitely has 9 lives!!! Good ol’ biscuit maker.

    Are his legs any better?

    • Ross on June 10, 2021 at 8:05 pm

No, Jenine. And I don’t expect that they ever will be.

I’ve no idea what happened to his legs. His right leg is useless, and his left leg sorta kinda works. He drags himself more often than trying to walk.

Limpy is perseverance in feline form. Equivalent to a human professional superheavy weightlifter. He is very strong and very resilient, very loving and very refined too. What a very, very good boy.

With kindness and devotion Limpy seems so grateful to you, and shows it by showing how much he appreciates your loving care!

Limpy is quite the fighter. And highly adaptable if he was a feral cat. But sounds like at some point he might have been a house cat and had his own people. Either way he’s a house cat now and seems to be just fine with that. He wouldn’t be purring and kneading you otherwise.

Having a regular and healthy diet will likely show increased improvements in his health as well.

Have you considered a little wheelchair for his back legs so he can get around a bit better? I imagine the dragging will start to rub fur off and produce sores or callouses on the parts that are being dragged around.

    Limpy os one lucky cat.
