A Tour For Candy

Candy recently asked: what did the Carriage House look like from inside the Cross House? So, Candy, this tour is for you! This is the view from the Servant’s Hall.

This is a 1905 Sanborn map, showing the Cross House to the left (north) and its Carriage House to the right (south). You can see that the Carriage House was set way back on the lot (against the alley) and was not visible from inside the Cross House. Thus, all the views shown here would have been of a lawn or garden.

Thanks for showing those views! So much improvement in the last year! Now they truly look like they go together! Old house people who see this can visualize the potential. The excitement for your restoration continues!
Best to you for the holidays and 2024!
ROSS! Thank you for sharing EVERYTHING! I’m in the process of house hunting in New York State and you have inspired me so so so much to restore a home. (Candy, btw, is my drag name!) Often I check your blog before I check my work emails, its one of my favorite parts of the day. You are amazing and the work you are doing is incredible, truly.
Wheeee thank you Ross for showing Candy (and other readers too) views of the Carriage House from the Cross House. So much progress has been done! You are an inspiration Ross (as Candy confirmed). And Candy, wishing you all the best with your restoration/ renovation.
Thank you, Leigh!!! As soon as I have my space, I plan to blog every success and heartache. The world needs more stories and for everyone to share their art and their passions.
Indeed, Candy. Glad to have you here at restoringross.com.
