All Aboard!

On Friday, I was in Topeka, and went to the museum of the Kansas Historical Society.

It was fabulous and fascinating.

I wandered from exhibit to exhibit, and saw, for the first time in my life, actual Indian teepees. Wow.

Then I turned a corner…and gasped. Gasped!

Wanna see?

Scroll way down.

An 1880 first-class passenger coach!!!!!!!!

Pulled by this!!!!!!!!

.

The plan of the passenger coach. When I get elected President, I will bring back such travel! And fixed-rail trolly’s!

People are not allowed inside the coach but the whole interior is delicious varnished wood.

However, one can walk through the regular passenger coach behind! This is just soooooooo cool!

Awesome. Have you ever heard of Steamtown National Historic Site? It’s in Scranton, PA. Very interesting, and steam locomotives, museum etc. It’s near where I live. Also there is the Trolley Museum. Scranton was once called the Electric City. They had I think the first electric trolley system.
    So I understand your excitement!

When I moved to Evanston Wy when I parties my husband I didn’t know much about the city.
I went to the local museum and I was talking to the matron there. She said she had some things with my maiden name on them. I was intrigued and looked into the names she gave me.
Turns out one of the names was my great great great grandfather. He moved here after crossing the plains with his family as a Mormon pioneer.
He was a cabinet worker. He worked for the railroad building the interiors of the passinger cars just like the one you saw.
They still work on rail cars here in Evanston. There isn’t much call for work on fancy passinger cars anymore. But my first job when I came here was at the front office of the rail car shop. 132 years after my great great great grandfather Alexander.

    Happy Sunday Ross!

This is cool. I love the quality of the things that are old. I would have loved to live back in the day but would miss a few conveniences of today. Life was hard back then. We are spoiled rotten (lazy) today.

Your post reminds me of a time I lived in Denver. I had a dear friend who was a train enthusiast-steam engines- and he roped me in for an early Saturday train ride. We traveled from Denver to Cheyenne to attend the rodeo. We rode in a restored passenger car, pulled by a restored steam engine. It was so much fun. The ride, food, rodeo, cowboys were so much fun.

    Have a great week.

    XOXO

Have you ever been to Greenfield Village in Dearborn MI. just outside Detroit? If not it is definitely a must see place.

      Yes!

I was born in Detroit and we often went to Greenfield Village.

      It was mind-boggling.

The CA State Railroad Museum is wonderful. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. My mother was with me and she had a nostalgic moment in the railroad car with all the decades of china. She remembered taking the train between NYC and Montana and recognized a pattern or two.

Have you ever been to rhe Ringling museum in Sarasota FL? They have John and Mables private train. Pictures online don’t do it justice. I wish I had enough time to tour the house too. But the circus museum was fun too. The house looked incredible from the outside.

Henry Morrison Flagler Museum in Palm Beach has his private coach you can walk through. Just a bonus seeing his stunning Mansion.

If you get to Chicago go to the Museum of Science and Industry Exhibit / All Aboard the Silver Streak: Pioneer Zephyr. It is an Art Deco train that you can tour and “ride” My kids enjoyed it too.
