About once every two years I come across 1930s fixtures by Markel which are quite remarkable. This particular set had been over-painted. Oh, the horror. Luckily however…

 

…I knew how to restore the original finish of gold and…

 

…jade.

 

Yep, just FABULOUS! The fixtures feature stylized birds with mirror-like back-plates. And those finials? ZOUNDS!

    I love that era of high-style Art Deco. It doesn’t really fit the aesthetic of our current house, but I will always admire it.

    That style reminds me a lot of the restored theater in our town. It is so intensely Art Deco, it had to feel incredibly bold and modern when it opened in 1931. There are some really great photos on their website here: https://paramountaurora.com/about/
