These were online and captured my special attention. The wall sconces are maritime-themed. The red sphere represents port (left side) and the green sphere is starboard (right). I love this kind of stuff, and just HAD to have them!
I cleaned them, put in new sockets, and rewired. I suspect that the lanterns were originally hand-held non-electric lanterns, and were later converted to wall-mounted electric sconces.
The Fresnel lenses throw off great patterns.

Are you ok? You don’t talk a lot about politics on this blog but the little you do leads me to believe this election will not have brought you joy, to say the least. Know that at least one of your regular readers is a queer Michigan woman also fighting a weird mix of depression & rage. The best I can say is I do believe we’re going to make it through – probably broken & bruised but we’re in it together – though I can’t even lift my head to see the way yet. I thought our country was so much better than this & yet here we are.
Hi Erin,
Thank you for your kind comments. It means a lot to me.
It has been four days since I published a post, the longest period since I began writing this blog.
And you are quite astute.
Yes, I am devastated by the events of this week, and am finding it difficult to function.
I am old enough to have experienced a great many elections, and know that sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. I have always accepted this, and go on with my life even if “my” person did not win.
But this election is wholly different, and my response to the results has stunned me. In addition to all my other feelings (none good), I can’t escape from the unsettling awareness that I no longer recognize the country I live in. This, I have never thought before.
About 19% of the country Voted for Donald. Just slightly more voted for Hillary (she won the popular vote). This means that 60M people are THRILLED and 60M feel the exact opposite, and this total disconnect between 120 million Americans cannot be good.
And all of this is powerfully sad to me.
Dearest Ross, I’m so glad I checked this. I have also been wondering how you’ve been holding up after the devastation of November 8. I remembered how passionate you were on the tour you gave when discussing the candidates and so I have been checking back here every day to see how you are.
I have only been through three elections where I can vote, but this feels… I don’t have the words. I’m sorry that you are also feeling this way (and that the other 60M people have to also feel this way). I hope for the best for you and all the other people in this rut.
