Being Attacked by Fussy

Today it was raining.

Again.

This precluded any work outside. So, what to do? What to do?

I wandered around the house while listing to podcasts.

Then I wiped off the pads on the dining room table. Much better!

I wandered all the way upstairs and decided to vacuum the third floor, which is a lot as it is mostly one huge room. Much better!

Back downstairs, I vacuumed the first floor. Much better!

While admiring the stairhall niche, I was suddenly struck…

…by how dirty the glass transom window was. HOW was it possible that I am now in year #5 of owning the Cross House and this window had never been cleaned? I really must be slipping.

However, I am pleased to announce that the transom is now cleaned! I am amazed by how much better it looks!

Down a bit lower, months and months ago I had removed the door hardware to refinish the door. And for all this time it sat on the adjacent window sill, to remind me to take the hardware to the basement and remove the old shellac, do a gentle polish, and reinstall. Which today, with my body and soul possessed by fussiness, I did. Much better!

Now, in the full grip of a fussy attack, I went outside and polished clean all the front porch windows. Then I washed all the window sills, which get amazingly dirty as they never get rained on because of the overhead roof. Then I was horrified at how dirty some of the siding was. Oh no! Dirty siding! The horror! The horror! So, out came the wash bucket and scrubber.

And so, while the political podcasts I had been listening to were confirming that a great deal of craziness was happening in Washington, DC, I can assure you that in Emporia, KS, things are just a tiny bit better.

I call them Tevye days. You know, a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Somehow those bits eventually do add up. 🙂

I am channeling my inner Ross and washing windows at my house this week. Three rooms down, three to go. And then there’s everything else on my list.

Some jobs I just hate to think about doing, but once started, they’re not so bad. And when they are done I am really glad I took the time to do them because they look so good. You got a lot done today.

Love the attacks of fussiness. I call it “nesting”. Time well spent just seeing the space around you with fresh eyes and doing those little jobs that it’s so easy to put off. When you look at the window from hell you will also see the tidied niche and the vacuumed floors and the whole house from a different perspective and get energy from it. Great use of a rainy day!!! And not easy to make yourself do! I love this house!
