Burning Witches

The mainstream media has lost its mind.

In reading thousands and thousands of comment online, I find this:

We love Joe.

This is in utter contrast to the media:

Biden is a witch. Burn him at the stake. BURN HIM.

The disconnect is…stunning. I’ve never known a greater disconnect.

This tweet captures my thoughts::

.

And it’s not just the media. Note how all the people braying for Biden to step down, NONE have suggested a viable option.

And NONE  have taken this into account:

.

Charlotte is….obviously…wise.

NOTE:

Yes, Biden had a bad 90 minutes. The NYT: HE NEEDS TO STEP ASIDE.

After Trump became a convicted felon….34 times…the NYT:

Yes, the media is really fucked up.

To me, November will be about two things:

  • Democracy vs. Fascism
  • Body autonomy for women vs. The Handmaid’s Tale.

And because I support democracy 1,0000% , and body autonomy for women, I wholly support Joe Biden.

And there is this, too (from Hopium):

“In the last few weeks we’ve gotten repeated confirmation of the success of the Biden Presidency – inflation was *zero* last month and prices of many goods are falling, crime and murder rates are way down, gas prices are down, the flow to the border is down. We’ve had the strongest economic recovery of any advanced economy in the world, the best job market since the 1960s, the lowest uninsured rate in American history, the deficit is trillions less, the Dow has broken 40,000 and all three indices continue hover in record territory. Domestic oil, gas and renewable production continue to be at all time highs leaving America more energy independent than it has been in decades. The Wall Street Journal called the American economy the “envy of the world,” and the Economist just wrote about the unprecedented start-up boom America is experiencing right now. Biden’s big three investment bills have dramatically accelerated the energy transition necessary to combat climate change and will be creating opportunities and jobs for our workers for decades to come.”

Final note: I hate this timeline.

I feel the same. I fear the Dems are hiding some of Bidens medical challenges but the other choice is Satan. I can live with Bidens problems but
    Not with Trumps.

I’m not sure what the deal is with Biden only working a 12 hour day instead of a 16 hour one.

Trump only worked four hours a day four days a week, sometimes three. He spent most of the time watching television. He was always taking off to play golf for three day weekends.

Whatever sells papers, or in this case gets ratings or hits to sell advertising.

I don’t think it is going to last. Joe has said he’s running and that’s it.

They have a new target. Project 2025 is starting to pick up traction, THANK YOU TARAJI P. HENSON!

The more people read about Project 2025 the more they are outraged. And there is a lot to read. It’s starting to get play in the media because it’s trending on Google searches. It’s getting talked about. In fact so much, Donald Trump had to issue a statement that he had nothing to do with it , etc despite there being video of him with it’s Heritage Foundation architect. Because Trump is a LIAR. We all know he will flip which ever way the wind blows.

The SCROTUS decision on Immunity made the debate moot. Project 2025 will do the same with these calls for Biden to step down. It isn’t going to be Trump versus Biden, the election is going to be Fascism versus Democracy. It is about an Authoritarian Dictator versus the President of the United States.

There is something for everyone to hate in their Project 2025 Mein Kampf manifesto. Outlaw abortions. Outlaw birth control. Outlaw IVF. Outlaw vaccines. Outlaw porn. Wait. They’re going to take away my porn? That is going to get attention when nothing else does.

It may come to no matter who represents the Democrats they will win over Trump because no one wants King Donald the first or the implementation of Project 2025. If the Democrats play their cards right and use it they could get an easy majority in the House and the Senate.

According to professor Allan Lichtman, who is an expert on predicting the winner, Biden has the best shot using his 13 key factors and he currently says Biden will win. Democrats would be foolish to give up an incumbent. Not that the DNC hasn’t made stupid decisions before. But Joe won the primary and Joe says he’s running and they rest can kiss his ass. The only thing that will prevent that is if he drops dead.

For that matter the only thing that will stop the convicted felon, sexual abuser and serial LIAR is if he drops dead. Given his diet and lifestyle much more likely.

Mary, I agree that Project 2025 is TERRIFYING. But most voters know nothing about it. And the media is…of course…mostly ignoring its portend.

      • mlaiuppa on July 6, 2024 at 3:30 pm

Project 2025 is starting to get noticed. There have been segments on it on both MSNBC and CNN. I expect Lawrence O’Donnell, Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow to be doing more on it. John Oliver had an entire segment on it, possibly before Taraji P Henson’s speech.

I think Project 2025 has legs.

I don’t think even the media can suppress that with misdirection about Biden, the debate, etc. That is old news that is going to die as Biden keeps doing what he is doing.

I also think Trump denying any connection to it will just draw attention to it. He always protests too much in his lies.

I will vote for whomever is running on the Democrat side against Trump. I think most Democrats will. I am worried that Biden will not capture the votes of some key groups (such as young people). However, I am worried that another candidate, likely Harris, would also lose some key votes as well. In other words, I am worried. It’s wrong to say that the voters are supporting Biden 100 percent. I read the comments, too, and talk to people. The committed Democrats will vote for the Democratic candidate, whomever it is (I’d vote for anyone rather than Trump). The committed Republicans will vote for Trump, no matter what. It’s the uncommitted I’m worried about, whether they vote for Trump or just don’t vote. I wish that Biden had stuck to his one-term statement and that we had a younger and stronger candidate since the primaries (I still like Pete – and my husband and I are still having the same argument about his electability. I don’t think anyone who wouldn’t vote for him because he’s gay wouldn’t vote for a Democrat anyway). It’s not true to say Biden is the only one who can beat Trump because he’s the only one who has. There have only been two candidates to oppose Trump. One won; one lost. That’s not to say someone else would also lose (or win). We just don’t know. Biden’s done some really good things, but I’ve seen his public appearances, and they are uneven at best. I am quite worried.

      Thank you, Karen,

You wrote: “It’s wrong to say that the voters are supporting Biden 100 percent.”

      Where did you read that?

You also wrote: “I wish that Biden had stuck to his one-term statement”

I can’t find a source for Biden saying that. I found one such statement by an aide, and from way back. But I would not equate that with a campaign promise.

  4. Karen on July 6, 2024 at 10:36 am

I can’t give you sources right now, but I did see a clip of Biden saying he’d be a one-term president. I also saw a poll that 75 percent of voters had doubts about his ability – and I have talked to many of my Democratic-voting friends who have those doubts. If I do some searching, I can probably come up with sources. I also believe that the Democratic party as a whole isn’t really addressing the concerns of the average uninformed voter who see that they can’t afford to buy a house, that their grocery bill has doubled, and that it costs nearly twice as much to fill up at the gas pump than it did a few years ago. You and I – because we read – know why this is so and what’s being done about it, but the average person doesn’t. And it’s worrisome. Bill Clinton was right when he said, “it’s the economy, stupid.”

    • Ross on July 6, 2024 at 11:32 am

      Thank you, Karen,

During his first 2 years in office, Obama brilliantly brought the economy back from the cliff it had fallen off of (Thanks, George!).

Did the media accurately report on the economy during these two years? And give credit to Team Obama?

Nope. They kept asking: Why isn’t the economy doing better?

And when Team Obama came up with a plan for universal health care, did the media report on how this would benefit Americans?

Nope. They kept screaming about DEATH PANELS.

So, the public had no understanding of how amazing Obama had been and this was reflected in the 2010 mid-term trounce the Democrats received.

Fast forward to 2016, the most qualified person to ever run for president (Hillary) was crucified by the media:

      IT’S HER EMAILS!

      IS SHE AT DEATH’S DOOR?

All the while they gave the least-qualified person to ever run (Trump), a ton of air time and coverage, and soft-peddled his obvious deficiencies.

      And guess who won?

      Yep.

Since Biden won 2020, his administration was been extraordinarily effective, possibly more than any other president. And has the media accuratley reported on how this helps most Americans?

Nope. They’ve been too busy screaming: HE’S TOO OLD!

So, yes, most voters have no idea of the great job Team Biden and the Democratic party has done. But I don’t blame them for this. I blame the media. The fucking media.

Remember, when Trump became a convicted felon….34 times…The NYT editors said nothing. No comment. Nada.

Biden has a bad 90 minutes? The NYT editors screams: HE NEED’S TO STEP DOWN!

      See the pattern?

Also, I’ve zero doubt that Biden and the Democratic party are well aware of the disconnect between their accomplishments and low-information voter perceptions, and are doing all they can to address this.

“It’s the economy, stupid.” Yes, this worked in 1992.

Today, studies show that voters are, yes, concerned about economic issues, but are also highly concerned about:
      The loss of democracy.
The loss of body autonomy for women
      Climate Change

In short, were are not living in a one-issue era, IMO. As one woman wrote after watching the debate: “Well, that was bad. But I still have a uterus. And so does my daughter. So, the only option is Biden.”

    • mlaiuppa on July 6, 2024 at 3:35 pm

Biden never came out and said it, he just implied it. His surrogates were the ones saying one term. Biden was using language like “bridge” candidate. Very political speak as he could always walk it back.

The fact is it is too late to change horses in mid stream.

I only hope that Trump and Project 2025 will inspire enough Democrats, Independents and Undeclared to vote against Trump. I really don’t understand the anti-Biden push back among some groups that are disappointed about one issue. Do they really think Trump will be better for them? Especially since Project 2025 spells out exactly what they plan to do and it isn’t going to benefit anyone but Trump and his rich cronies.

  5. Karen on July 6, 2024 at 12:22 pm

I agree that the media is not reporting everything it should. Where is the media talking about Trump’s lies? Or telling the public about 2025? Of course, there are other important issues, but I am not sure the uninformed can see past the economy. I hope I am wrong.

The Hill reported voter unease: https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4751781-democrats-2024-election-candidate-biden/ about Biden.

Biden apparently told advisors privately that he wouldn’t seek a second term but didn’t announce it publically: https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4751781-democrats-2024-election-candidate-biden/

As a Democrat, I’m concerned about the issues you mention. But I don’t think that a lot of uninformed voters are. I suspect those issues seem a lot more remote than the prices at the grocery store and the gas pump. And the media is to blame. Historically, the economy has ALWAYS done better under Democrats. But is that being reported?

  6. Laurie L Weber on July 6, 2024 at 3:29 pm

I know. Why aren’t the focusing on Trumps badness?!?! (Read someone call him danger yam)! But I also heard one panelist on cnn said everyone she’s talked to said they’d take Biden on his worst day over rump. I’m just praying people get a grip. It’s too late to change now and I don’t know if anyone who can defeat don like Biden can. I like Kamala but not everyone would support her at this late date I fear. They need to be hammering about abortion, book banning, lack of gun control, felonies, and the plans don’s already laid out, about how many of his great people he surrounded himself with are in jail, that Biden’s not done with strengthening the economy. I’m praying like crazy!

  7. Cindy Belanger on July 6, 2024 at 7:06 pm

I am disillusioned about the media, seeming to side with Trump over Biden. These two answers always stand out when trying to make sense of this. 1. The Republicans are always saying the media favors the Dems, so the media is trying to be fair and 2. The media owners are always worried about profits and sensationalism sells.
The polls aren’t as predictable as they used to be, most people do not answer their phone whey they don’t recognize the phone number. The polls are representing a small portion of the voters.
Project 2025 is terrifying and should be talked about more, so uninformed voters know what they are voting for. Dismantling the Justice Dept., Education Dept., Firing all civil service workers and hiring yes men for Trump. The list goes on and on.
Ross, your last paragraph says it all, what a great job Biden has done and will continue to do.
    Vote for a free America!

    • Karen on July 6, 2024 at 7:51 pm

I agree about the polls. I don’t trust them. I don’t usually answer polls either. I am sure a lot of people are like me. Or lie….

I looked today at the text of the 2025 project — very terrifying.
