Last year, my friend Carl showed me a house in Wichita he was thinking of buying.
The price? Like $8K. Yes, the price of a very very very used car.
The house was thrillingly original and GORGEOUS. My God, look at all that scrumptious detail!
MY GOD! A porch TO DIE FOR.
MY GOD! I was salivating at all this beauty.
Many of the windows were jewel-like knock-outs.
Carl, who was already restoring two houses, realized he could not take on another project. The house appears to have sold, but no work has commenced and the house looks the same today.
Two houses to the north was a twin. Was. Will this fate befall 1313? Or will somebody save the glorious beauty of 1313?
Will you let us know the fate of this beauty? 13 is my lucky number and I could see myself sitting on that porch…
Someone flipped a Victorian in our old neighborhood and did the same thing. They even painted it the same poop orange color, top to bottom, trim and everything. How does anyone think that looks good?
What a stunner! I hope it is saved and I wish it could be me.
Stuck here in SoCal . . .
Oh, man is that last picture sad. I hope someone won’t do the same to 1313.
So has anything happened to it yet?
My great-grandfather lived there and then my grandpa and grandma bought it in the late 1930s. My folks, brothers and I lived with them for a while we were really little (early 2950s) and I have many fond memories of that house. Pocket doors into living room and dining room which fascinated me at that age. And those colored panels in the landing window are a distinct memory. I have some red, blue and green glass from some windows that my grandpa had to repair and replace when they moved. I still have that glass because I do stained glass). There used to be a small barn in the back yard and my grandma had chickens there. I sure hope someone saved it.
