Car Watch: DAY 1
Got two calls today.
One caller spoke only Spanish. As I could offer no reply, they hung up.
Another caller wanted to know the price. Now, in order to get my phone number they had to stop by the car, walk over to it, and take down (or photograph) the posted phone number. Adjacent is the price. And just to the left is the price again.
“The price is $8900 and this is listed on the spec sheet taped to the window, along with a lot of other good information.”
“Oh. Will you take a little less?”
“Ummm, I might but I just spent $4800 improving the car. Really important stuff.”
Pause. Then a click.

You’re going to have fun. Been trying to sell my 67 dodge d100 for about 2 weeks now. Have had offers like crazy, but not a single person has bothered to actually show up.
When I sold my first Prius I think it took 9 weeks and I had the HOV lane stickers too. Advertised end of February and sold in April. Couple drove down from L.A. to get the car because it had the HOV lane stickers and the husband had a lousy commute. Good deal for him as they extended the expiration another year.
Patience. This is why I would have asked more and then haggled down to $8,900.
It’s a pity they don’t recognize you’ve “saved” them $4,800 in repairs and maintenance. You could have done nothing and asked $6,000. Then they’d be paying a lot more to do the work themselves.
