CH: Day 54

I have not touched the Carriage House since last week, due to the extreme weather. Today was hot (92) but not humid. A large fan saved the day. Today I fully screwed the sheathing which had just been tacked in place. I added flashing left and right, low. I nailed down the lap-siding lower right. And added tarpaper. Baby steps, baby. Baby steps. Tomorrow I will install siding under the window.

A room with a view. The wonderful entry arch and columns now…for the first time…have the exterior opening centered on the arch. Ross happy.

I love the centered window, Ross. The doorway crowded the staircase. This is such a beautiful setting for the staircase now. Your efforts are paying off and I am enjoying looking in!
Thank you, Pam!
Looking good!! I didn’t understand the reason for the moving parts…i.e. the big window, front door, little window…but these photos just “turned on the lightbulb” !!!!
Good decisions albeit a lot of work!! The carriage has so many quirks which I love!
I was scratching my head about the changes as well, but as usual your vision reveals a perfect plan. Beautiful!
Yes. That is how it should be.
Now, just to throw a monkey in, I know you are using an original window and that window is not a stained glass window and the carriage house is more modest and all that.
But.
It would be nice to replace the large plain pane under the transom with a simple stained glass design. Now that it’s centered on the arch from the inside it just begs for something a little more special than just a big plain piece of glass. Perhaps keep the original plain piece but cut it down for a center and then put a simple border of squares and rectangles around it that are in color. Maybe something inspired from the Cross House.
West window? That means a sunset window.
Just saying. It’s an opportunity to add a bit of Ross to the house.
Hi, Mary! The relocated window has two sashes. The lower one is large and square. It has a single pane of glass. The upper sash is like a transom window. It has diamond-paned leaded glass. There are two other such windows in the Carriage House.
Now i understand why you were adamant to make all those efforts ! Wonderful pictures, thanks, it explain every thing
Love the transformation Ross! So great to see all the progress you are making
This centered window is so lovely.
Thank you for testing!
