CH: Day 80
Yesterday, I arrived at the Cross House at 1PM and had lunch.
At 1:30 I stepped onto the south steps with the intention of walking over to the Carriage House. I paused, feeling assaulted by the heat and humidity. While no hotter than many days of late, it felt overwhelming.
I went back into the big house, walked upstairs, turned on the AC, went into the Octagon bedroom, turned a fan on, and laid on the bed.
A nap suddenly seemed vital.
At 2PM, after a bit of fitful sleep, I decided to sleep on the parlor sofa. It was cooler downstairs.
At 3:30, I woke. I slept for 90 minutes? Wow.
Assuming that I was fully refreshed and ready for action I stepped back onto the south steps. And felt even more assaulted.
At 3:34 I was in my car, with the AC on arctic, and driving back home.
At 4:00 I pulled into my driveway, stepped out of the car, shook the icicles off my goatee, and entered the 72-degree embrace of home.
And that is how it is sometimes. An old man not even able to accomplish a single baby step.
I fret not, though.

It’s called self-care and listening to your body. You deserved it.
It felt like a sauna yesterday! I drove to Emporia to visit my dad, and I swear I could see the humidity in the air. I was tired after driving all day with the AC on high. I’m glad you listened to your body and took a nap. I’m sure you needed it.
Oh, I don’t know. I think having an afternoon nap in the Cross House is an accomplishment.
We only have 75% humidity today. (It was 87% Friday.) As long as it stays under 80 F I’ll be fine. In the shade. Over that and I’m back in the house.
I’m sure there are things you can do at home too. You always have something on your list of things to do.
Yay! Sensible Ross reigns!
I am so thankful for you practicing self-care.
You are too funny! “I shook the icicles off my goatee”…. Hahahaha!
I’m grateful you listen to your body.
Tomorrows another day!
Bless you, Sandra, for noticing my silliness.
I love, love, love your silliness! Hahaha!
Getting old sucks.
Since everything does the alternative sucks worse.
Right-o Jenine!
Resting on a bed in the Octagon Room: dreaming of the future when you can be there everyday…. BIG step, not a baby step!
