Damn. Houses I Lust After (but cannot buy).
I am really mad.
And frustrated.
You see, I want to buy a lot of houses and restore them.
Tragically, I cannot. My lust notwithstanding, a lack of endless finances precludes my snapping up every house attracting my special attention.
I really hate when reality conflicts with desire. DAMN!
So, this post is the best I can do, A Wish List about desire thwarted by reality.
All my desires center on homes designed by the architect Charles W. Squires, who designed the house I do own, the Cross House (and its adjacent carriage house).
Well, it is some small consolation that I have some discrimination regarding desire: Squires. The man.
ABOVE: 618 Union. This house is three houses north of the Cross House. The house is NUMBER 1 on my Lust List. The house is vacant and in danger. I lose sleep over this house. It was featured on Old House Dreams.
614 Union. This house is two doors north on the Cross House. It might be for sale in 2015. The house is NUMBER 2 on my Lust List. And who could not lust after such a beauty?
613 Exchange, the home of Charles W. Squires. I have a post on this house. The house is NUMBER 3 on my Lust List. Image Lyon County Historical Society.
628 Cottonwood. I have a post on this house. The house is NUMBER 4 on my Lust List.
526 Exchange. This house is one block east of the Cross House. I have a post on this house. The house is NUMBER 5 on my Lust List.
702 West Street. I have a post on this house. The house is NUMBER 6 on my Lust List.
CONCLUSION
The above houses are not recognized as being significant in any way, save 614 Union. Yet each house IS significant.
I fantasize about carefully restoring each, and with some artful, cautious updating. These are all gorgeous homes and it would be incredible to somehow assure each another century of life.
This is my longing.

Would it be possible to form some sort of organization to purchase these homes and shore them up and market them? Like in your spare time ;)?

Greetings. The house at 628 Cottonwood was my grandparents home when I was a child. I have many memories and some photos of celebrations there. Ironically,I am in the process of returning to Emporia to rehabilitate properties! I would love to meet you and visit endlessly about our mutual love and fascination of beautiful historic properties!
