Favorite House: 810 Mechanic.

This is a house easily passed by.

The exterior has been heavily renovated. The siding is circa-1950 and circa-1990. The original front porch is long gone.

But…but…what remains is highly tantalizing, and speaks for a GORGEOUS home if the whole were restored.

The house is just a block from the main street, and the restored Granada Theater. Nice.

NOTE: I highly suspect that the house is by Charles. W. Squires. The man.

810 Mechanic. When originally constructed, this was a stunning home. Later renovations have obscured its beauty, but it would not be difficult to resurrect what has been lost or covered over. Of particular note is the bay with the dramatic, over-scaled brackets. Love it! The stair leading to the porch was added when the house was converted into multi-family.

810 Mechanic. I would love to discover how much of the original interior remains.

810 Mechanic. To the left was the location of the front door, now covered by recent plywood siding. I am dying to know: is the door simply buried under the siding?????

You should have seen the porch on 908 Mechanic before it deteriorated….
