That’s one of those houses where I truly would not change a single thing, at least for a while. For me, it’s so outrageous that I respect the audacity and would want to appreciate it for a couple years. 🙂
A mere half million for a house designed by the lost love child of Elvis and Liberace? A bargain I say! A bargain!
The interior design feels about 15 years newer than the build date of 1950. The metallic wallpaper is wonderful but some of the furniture isn’t exactly my taste. Wouldn’t change a thing. I can’t wait to see how the carriage house and Cross House progresses–as an antique electric fan collector (I specialize in fans produced from 1887-1915), I can’t help but fantasize about each room as a display for a fan, much like a grand house of the turn of the century would have had.
Love to hear about fans! Our place was built in 1888 and would look sharp with an old ceiling fan in a few of the rooms.
Well, it’s not that pristine. It think I spotted a broken counter tile in the bathroom.
My Dad would love this place.
Kinda looks like the ‘Vegas “Brat Pack” came and threw up all over it. The outside has nothing to commend it, Rydell or not.
But it certainly has a lot of space, good layout and a nice yard.
I’d love to see what the Property Brothers do with this house.
That is the definition of living a very colorful life! Definitely unique.
Yowza, that’s a lot of look!
Just when I thought I’d seen it all…Oye vey!!!
The interior decorating makes the house, it is quite stunning. BUT, it is no comparison to the Cross House. Even in the state of disrepair, the Cross House is ten times better with the beautiful woodwork, gorgeous fireplaces, so many nooks and crannies, the staircase. Don’t even think about selling the Cross House, you belong here Ross. You could have a room decorated 50’s style, but only one. I’m a little bossy today, sorry.
The pink banded carpet! Wow! And the painted cabinet trim. Paartay! With Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke!
Maybe with some Serge Gainsbourg on the turntable. Cha cha cha du loop!
I hope it stays intact,
Thanks for pointing us there Ross,
OMG.
Oh Ross I saw this when at work today!
My mouth fell open…
WHAT A HOOT!!
I joined a Facebook group celebrating MCM design, and saw this house. It is really nice, but there were a few others that were even better, in my opinion. One in Ohio. I just drool. I love Victorian houses, but I also love MCM design.
I actually LOVE it. I can see the attention to detail and the $ invested to make a quality, truly unique, and beautiful home. As I looked through the pictures I thought “Jonathan Adler-esque!” “Very Kelly Wearstler!” – in short, “If this was presented as the portfolio of a hot interior designer in Architectural Digest everyone would be falling over themselves to hire them”
It’s very ‘of a time’ but also weirdly timeless…? All of this is so hot right now.
I can appreciate this house, even if I couldn’t live in it…and agree that it would be a shame if the contents don’t convey with the property, and if the new owners change a single thing. In 50 years, this house will be the MCM equivalent of the Carson Mansion and it deserves to be preserved and appreciated.
Sweet! 💜 I’d need to live in it for at least a year or so, to even consider what to change around.
By the way, I’d take hostages for that clock over the kitchen door. 😉
Oh my. 1/2 mill? Needs a unique buyer, that’s for sure! Definitely not my taste. 🙂
A friend of mine sent this a few days ago!
The interior is really awesome, but kind of startling compared to the otherwise very plain 1950s exterior. It just doesn’t “fit” for me.
Perhaps this is support for the hypothesis that the interior decorating was done somewhat after the home was built?
You could not pay me $514,000 to stay there, let alone own it.
Wow, that house is really something. Being a child of the 50’s I can say that this house reminds me of the 1970’s with heavy kitsch overtones. I think it would give me a headache to stay there, but it is very interesting!!!
Almost speechless… Sort of gaudily gorgeous! I couldn’t live in it but I am enriched by seeing it!
Same!!
OMG! I haven’t recovered enough yet to comment…but thanks for the visual rush!
Grace! I’ve missed you! BIG hug!
Thanks Ross! I have missed you too, and a big hug back to you. One day soon I will give you a hug in person, and catch you up with all of the reasons why I haven’t had time to follow your blog much or stop by to visit. Of course I never go by your corner without looking at the magnificent Cross House. I am so blessed to live nearby. See you soon!
