South Hall, looking north, 1999. The door to the far left opened to the library. This was not an original location and I closed up the opening.
Now. The ‘extensions’ have been fully recreated (center, top). I lowered the ceiling to hide the AC trunk line. I love the matching gas/electric pendants I found. The ceiling is not yet painted, and the color will drop down onto the walls about 2-inches. The missing section of wainscoting has bedeviled me since 2014. What happened here? It originally had the reeded wood top trim, and full Lincrusta. My only thought is that built-in hall table was installed, in an eye shape. And this is my plan if Dr. Doug is up for another adventure.

Why would there be an eye shaped table in that corner? Would it be for a telephone? Just seems an odd place to put a little wall table without any purpose.
Is there no way to restore the lincrusta and trim like you did on the extensions?
Mary, the south door was the family entrance. A table in the curved corner would have been an ideal place for mail, kets, hats, iPhones, etc.

Question: Those bump-outs feel like they should be framing something on the back wall. Do have plans to put something there? Art? A mirror?

It’s looking really great! Just a thought, have you ever considered flipping one of the light fixtures, so they go the opposite direction? And I have to say I am very excited at the thought of a finished celling in the foyer it’s such a grand and lovely space.

It looks SO good already! Between the fresh paint, the restored lincrusta, the refinished floor and trim, and the period-correct light fixtures, it’s already gorgeous. I can only imagine how amazing it’ll be when complete!
