Inching Along

See the big curved window? See the green vertical trim to the right side?

The vertical trim is removed. You can see the damage to the lap-siding. I am horrified by this.

Most of the siding though looks pristine.

I fussed and fussed with trying to repair, glue, and nail the damaged sections, but finally gave up and replaced some of the siding.

In order to do this, I first had to cut some shingles to size. Then the shingles had to be shaved thin with my electric planer to match the thin profile of the 1894 siding.

The work is similar to what I did in September, 2016. BEFORE.

AFTER. And this looks good today, still. Whew!

Today and yesterday were HORRIBLE. Hot and incredibly humid. I wilted just stepping outside. S0, I may have to switch back inside the Carriage House which has AC!!!!!!!!

Didn’t you say this trim and siding issue was a temporary and deferred maintenance issue?

Yeah, this is a lesson we all never learn.

At least you have the talent to get it repaired and repaired correctly.

Glad you’re on top of things. This is how houses become tear downs.
