Inching Along…GADZOOKS!

Today is a day I have long awaited.

For over three long years.

During all this time I have been patient. Waiting. Just waiting. For the time. The time for beauty to emerge.

(Really, I should get some sort of patience award.)

Well, wanna see what I did today?

Scroll way down…

GADZOOKS! I started painting just under the dining room windows!!!!!!!!

Until a few days ago I had always planned to paint everything under the windows solid green.

But the New & Improved Ross decided to try out the recently introduced Color #5 as a background to the scrollwork.

Have no fear, I have no intention of picking out the scrollwork all over the house. But in select areas, areas where the scrollwork is a unique pattern, I thought Color #5 would be a good background color.

Just under the scrollwork will be a wide green band (the wood water table trim), and to the far left the vertical trim will be green. Of course, painting the curved window sash black will also make a huge difference, and that will be done next week.

Well, I am quite giddy with gadzookness.

I think it would be too heavy were it solid green. Picket out in green over gold it has a lovely delicate lacy look. and sooooo glad to see that red paint disappearing

Can you please ID the 5 colors?

    Wall – goldish beige
    Trim – olive green
    Window panes/trim -black
    Selected backgrounds – light beige?
    ???

However is that the same gold used to repaint two columns? It clashes with the other colors & is not pleasing. However if you like it then go with it. I find the gold in concert with the other colors quite ghastly.

Every time you post a picture of the Great North Wall, I think, “Geez, the SIDE of this house is prettier than the fronts of most houses!” Yes, I realize this side faces a street, but still – it’s gorgeous. Congratulations, Ross.

Just for the heck of it, I hope one of the photoshop magicians will try to show several options as to what the trim under the window could look like with an assortment of choices of the colors already in situ. perhaps one such choice could be those that started this BIG change in plan, the porch gable colors. I’d like that gray to be less lonely and am finding the dark green a little harsh against color five. That is not to say that I won’t like it very much after the green is on the water table. I am loving the exposition of the creative process that is manifesting on this blog. The contributions of people who you have not even met is exhilarating!

Please realize that I am trying to write this paragraph in hopes that I don’t come off as preachy or am in some way being self-righteous. I feel that each owner’s choices are just that and it is clear that Ross says, “I like the color choices I have made and am making” without having to disparage what was there before. The red doesn’t work with your scheme, but I hope that Bob Rodak and his wife, the former owners, don’t take any of these comments about red as criticism of them and their choices. For me, both sets of colors are significant steps in this magnificent obsession. If Bob and his wife hadn’t stepped in when they did, and hadn’t removed the majority of the lead paint among the significant work that they completed, the house may not have been an option for Ross at the time he bought it. I bet when they stripped most of the lead paint and painted the grey and red, everyone in the area was thrilled to see it happen.

Hats off to Ross for having given them the credit that they are due in the early posts of the blog.

Well said, and I agree. I am from Emporia, and I’m grateful to the Rodaks for buying the house when they did because they laid the foundation for the current resurrection. They are an important part of the history of the Cross House.
