A lot of top Republicans, Fox news, and (of course) Trump, are praising Putin and his invasion of Ukraine.

Here are Ukrainians forced to take shelter in a Metro station.

Sending peaceful energy to everyone in Ukraine.

I feel so sorry for the Ukrainian people, they are the victims. If Trump feels that Putin is so “savvy” and “smart”, then he should take his trashy family and move to Russia. A much-loved high school teacher once told us “In latin, the word “politician” means “liar”. Well, it doesn’t, but her point was made. Almost 50 years later, the saying still applies. We have been warned repeatedly by world events, what will happen when we outsource our goods, to be manufactured in other countries. Not long ago, there was no PPE for hospital workers. Why? Because the CEO’s of various corporations can make more $$$$$ when these items are made in third-word countries, for pennies on the dollar. Russia is a far cry from self-sufficient, financial & economic sanctions will have a big effect, despite Putin’s rhetoric. We need to take warning, and start manufacturing our goods here, rather than in China. Look around, at no time is democracy more important. A number of countries, China, Russia, Cuba, North Korea, and a few others, are only hanging on to their dictatorships by a thread. Their people have gotten a taste of the outside world, and they can see there is an alternative to their totalitarian regimes.

This situation is heartbreaking, but I am glad Trump is no longer in office because I think things could be a whole lot worse.

Rage, sorrow and deep disappointment. The Russian people marching against this war offers a glimmer of hope.

I can only hope that this situation will become Putin’s Waterloo. Even the Russian people suffer from his dictatorial delusions.

Trump admires Putin because bullies/maniacs appreciate each other. I think that Ukraine is the Russian equivalent of Hitler annexing Austria; it is the first piece of Putin’s puzzle. A major difference is that most of the German and Austrian citizens were in favor of the annexation; Putin does not have that kind of support, not even from his own people. We all know how Hitler’s grand plan to conquer the world ended; we can only hope that Putin’s war does not cost millions of lives before he is consigned to the ash heap of history. The best thing that could happen would be if his military generals and those near the top of the Russian hierarchy were to realize that Putin’s mad plan spells disaster for their country, and then take him out before that can happen. If certain, specific areas of Ukraine wish to be annexed into Russia, then they should vote in a free, fair referendum on whether or not to do so. It would be bad for those who live in that territory, since they would have to chose between becoming Russian citizens or leaving their homes and moving inside the new border of Ukraine, but I would imagine that they would prefer that to being bombed.

Trump is an old fool. That said, I have heard exactly nothing from any actual Republicans or from Fox News that in any way praises Putin or this invasion. I am disturbed that someone has even implied same, for what value does that provide to understanding this horrid world event…

I am actually watching Fox News, which I don’t normally do, because it has reporters in Ukraine reporting live. The talking heads back in New York are speaking out strongly against Putin and its invasion, including reporting on China’s support of Putin. It’s also reporting on Chinese actions against Taiwan, which I am not hearing from other news media.

We all need to take a deep breath and ignore anything Trump has to say. He has zero influence on world events now and acts merely as a distraction. News media could do us all a great favor and stop reporting on anything he says, as it’s not useful or particularly newsworthy.

We need to keep close watch on both Russia and China simultaneously, for the world has now become insanely more dangerous than during the Cold War. But we need to do so with clear eyes, not wasting time on blaming some opposition party inside the US.

The US has treaty obligations in NATO and with Taiwan. Should Putin intentionally or accidentally activate NATO defense responses under Article 5 (Lithuania has already requested Article 4 activation), he’ll find himself at war with NATO. Japan and South Korea are moving into defensive posture, and Taiwan is on alert, after China flew fighters into Taiwanese airspace at the same time Putin launched forces into Ukraine. If China sees advantage and launches a Taiwan invasion, the US will find itself in a two-front war.

THAT is what we need to be concerned about — not some old big-mouthed fool or “reporters” with personal agendas making pronouncements about their competition.

We must all use our own brains, our own analytical processes, and more than one primary information source (not circular reporting where one makes a dubious claim, then others report on that report) to determine what’s actually going on and who is going to profit from these situations. Then we really should support Ukraine and all the NATO nations bordering Russia, and we should support Taiwan against Chinese aggression to come — for it will come.

Perfectly said! It is going to boil down to this: The free world vs the oppressive, totalitarian world. Now that Russia & China have aligned their dictatorships, this will be the new reality. Taiwan is next…..

You missed, obviously, Tucker Carlson (here) and Laura Ingraham and other Fox figures praising Putin.

You missed, obviously, Mike Pompeo praising Putin. As have other top GOP leaders.

      • Barbara V on February 25, 2022 at 4:30 pm

Sad to say, you’ve lost it, Ross.

Where the hell has Biden been when the Ukrainians have been begging for support?! He wants to impose sanctions and “give it time” to see what happens – Meanwhile, the Russians are on the doorstep of the Ukrainian capitol.

Biden is an embarrassment, and turning his back on the people of Ukraine is just another on his growing list of pathetic failures.

        • Ross on February 25, 2022 at 4:50 pm

          Dear readers,

          Barbara is a Republican.

Biden could announce a cure for cancer and she would find a way to slam him for it.

I’m not even going to try and have a conversation with her. I’ve tried many times previously. Not even a tiny bit of reality is ever processed.

Note, too, how she doesn’t mention Trump, who kissed Putin’s ass and did everything he could to help Putin destroy NATO. And then Trump tried to shake down Ukraine to help his re-election. Which got him impeached.

Nooooooooo, it’s all the fault of a Democrat!

            (chuckling loudly….)

          • Sherry Hyman on February 26, 2022 at 4:58 am

Wait…..Biden DID promise a cure for cancer….while campaigning….not a word about it after his swearing-in.
And I saw all the recent headlines from left-leaning news media, about T, the Reps., et.al. None of it was about the goings-on today….only old sound bites, taken out of context.
Just wondering….with your choice of info-gathering, did you hear about the BIG news coming outta Canada???

      • Paul on February 25, 2022 at 5:36 pm

I saw those clips praising Putin. Disgusting. I hope they wind up in the trash bin of history!

  8. Laurie L Weber on February 25, 2022 at 5:01 pm

I often wish I could be a fly on the wall in some of the Republican’s and journalist’s homes. I don’t understand how they can say one thing, turn around and say the opposite, and think no one notices. How can they look themselves in the mirror? If I was their spouse, I would be mortified and embarrassed to death. How can they sleep at night? No honor or moral compass. They forget we are their bosses. I pray they see the light someday….

Lest we not forget that Mr. MaCoup stopped Ukraine from getting the aide Congress allocated to them in order to blackmail their then president for dirt on Biden, even if it had to be created. He also pulled our troops out of the middle east without adequate planning and Russia immediately went in. We left useable equipment, buildings, air fields.

Mango Mussolini will go down in history as the worst president ever. If for nothing but stupidity alone. He beats out former worse presidents who had the good sense to die shortly after taking their oaths. His will eventually come out as the most corrupt U.S. administration of modern times if not for all time.

But I don’t totally blame Cadet Bone Spurs. I chiefly blame McConnell and the RNC for allowing it. They knew what he was and they still allowed him on the ticket. Winning meant more to them than the country and the people in it. It still does. And they are continuing to push the country down the road to Fascism. For that, I lay ALL of the blame at their feet.
