Patty Wanted To Know…
The image terrifies me! OMG, that’s all that’s been done on the south facade? Up close, it seemed like a lot! And look at how much more there is still to do!
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!
That’s it! I’m running for the hills!

This image does look a little (OK a lot) intimidating. But think of all you’ve accomplished on the entire house so far, exterior and interior. Amazing. And think of all those books you still need to listen to. Have faith and carry on, you have done so much more than most people ever dream about.
Baby steps Ross, baby steps. No more distant views. And you have done a lot.
Cross House restoration has been in increments…& thus whole facades could be tackled until south facade……the south facade with the magnitude of restoration could only be tackled sanely in bite-sized sections..you notice the word sanely …
Or you would flee for the hills!
Yes, there is much to be accomplished on this facade. But if you look at it, the house design lends itself somewhat to small bite size pieces. My chant is not “I think he can,” it is more, “I know he will, I know he will!”
As you always say Ross, it’s all about baby steps. On the bright side, at least you won’t have to re-shingle the ENTIRE south facade. I’m sure the first floor will go faster, and your baby step method will continue to work
for you.
Wait!! If you just walk around a little to the front of the house you can see how much is DONE! I love the south side it has soooo much character just screaming for help. It is going to be so beautiful and you are going to be so proud! I can hardly wait!
Thanks, Ross, now I can visualize the finished product, and my name is on a post title. How cool is that!
Hi Ross,
I remember you saying that the massive amount of damage on this corner was caused, at least in part, by gutter/downspout issues. On your recent photos of the carriage house there was a downspout that used to go to a gutter on the front porch. With the porch gone, the downspout now ends midway up the wall… Any plans to extend the downspout and (possibly) save yourself some future headaches on the carriage house?
The re-shingled and painted corner on the Cross House looks fantastic!
Ok, let’s get you some audio book ideas to take the stress off, something to listen forward to…

I see all the beautifully restored windows and all the repairs that are done! The shingles look fantastic and the color scheme is really really gorgeous!
What a good idea! Go jogging, I am confident that, after your run, you will get your rhythm and knock out the rest of the painting with your usual zest for the project.
I think that you might need to put up scaffolding to define an area to work on (even if you don’t need it). It always gives me a frisson of vicarious pleasure each time you erect a new area of scaffolding or take one down a level because you have accomplished another milestone. This is your forte.
Thank you for providing me with so much inspiration!!!!!!!
Gonna be so exciting/rewarding to see you do that circular balcony opening!
No running for the hills! You got this! All the work that you have done is completely astounding. Interior and exterior. Deep breathe, exhale, and one shingle at a time!
