Pretty Things To Roll Around On

So, the outer border of plywood has been removed in the living room of the Carriage House. This will be infilled with oak. The plywood in the center will be covered by…

…this huge 11×15 rug. I like the design and the gray will complement the gray ceiling (painted by Cody).

If you look close, you can see the matching 9×12 rug for the dining room. I already had a lovely rug in the room but decided the two rooms should match as they are so open to each other. The other will go in my bedroom.

I decided to purchase the rugs now rather than later as I grew worried that the stated sizes would not end up being the actual sizes. As has previously happened. This would be a HUGE issue as the oak borders are designed for the size of each rug. And, luckily, the actual sizes are as stated. Whew. One less worry for Ross.

Note: The rugs were $$$$ less than installed oak would have been.

They look very nice. Elegant but not in your face. I think the matching idea is a good one and great you can relocate the current rug for reuse.

The second photo was confusing until I realized the smaller rug is on top of the larger one.

Those rugs are magnificent. From whence did you acquire them?

I’ve seen many old houses (including the circa ~1910 foursquare farmhouse my in-laws live in near Hinckley, IL) that were originally built with the center of the floors in basic pine, and the outer border with oak, in anticipation of using a large center rug. So, what you’re doing is entirely consistent with the economical builders of the distant past!

I saw a similar floor where they painted the pine with an elaborate design and then stained the outer areas. I believe it was somewhere in Europe!

You can always add more oak later.

How far are you running the oak under the rug, just wondering? You may need to allow for shifting as things well MOVE about as your title suggests. I like your creative titles. My mind has, HAS to read the posting after wondering where they lead.

Thanks, June, for liking my titles.

I’m always thrilled when anybody notices the writing.

The titles are never hard; they just pop into my head. With this one, I had typed in the first two words. But, just as I was about to click PUBLISH, I paused, looked at the title, and thought I can do better.

In an instant, the other four words were in my head. I smiled while typing them in.

But Ross, we never got a picture of you rolling around on those pretty rugs!

Maybe next time there is a video of the Rolling Around On. Nice carpets.
