At midnight, the US government shuts down.
Republicans have been all out in pre-blaming Democrats. And they have been all out in lying about why Democrats won’t help keep the government open.
What Rs say:
- Democrats want to give $$$$$ health care to illegal immigrants!
- Democrats want $$$$$ surgery to make everybody trans!
Reality:
“Democrats are calling for an extension of tax credits that make health insurance cheaper for millions of Americans – which are set to expire – and for a reversal of cuts to Medicaid that have been made by Trump. They also oppose spending cuts to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and National Institutes of Health (NIH).”
Republicans passed their Big Bill which gutted services for the average Joe but gave massive tax credits to super-rich people who don’t need such cuts.
Democrats are working hard to mitigate these abuses.
In short:
Republicans HARM
Democrats HELP
Oh, and one more thing: “The Republicans refused to include the Democrats in any of their negotiations,”

I am amazed at anyone that can believe some of the asinine drivel being spewed by Republicans and especially the Sundowning Lunatic it the Oval office. But I guess that is why they call it a cult.
I listened to a good bit of that “pep talk” Cadet Bone Spurs and Secretary Kegsbreath subjected our highest ranking military officers to endure. I only hope they were quietly squirming in their seats. I know they took oaths to the Constitution and the United States, not to a Dictator or a King. I only hope enough of them hold that oath dearly enough they are willing to refuse unlawful orders when they receive them. How our military acts from this point will determine if our future will be as an authoritarian dictatorship or a democracy.
Canada here. We’re hoping they hold their oath to the Constitution as well. I feel terrible for what is going on, and what that means for the average, non-cultist Americans. However, my first concern is for my country, and for Canadians. I can’t wait until this is all over, to be honest.
The MAGA cult and their leader are our primary enemies within.
May the Force be with our Constitution and all who support it.
I also love their complaint that they just need to vote for the “clean bill” and negotiate about health care later. Except I don’t believe later with come. The last big bill I remember hearing of that was bipartisan, Musk and the felon said nope and republicans backtracked. So why would the democrats believe they’d negotiate in good faith? This bill had no democratic input – why would they go along with it? No one wants a government shut down, except, I believe, the felon in chief. A side note: Argentina is making out like a bandit: Due to the tariffs, they get to sell their grain to China, after their right wing government tanked their economy, we send them $20 billion, and they get to keep their universal health care while millions here will lose it. So much for America first. So many lies…
