There are fewer things I adore more than good roof cresting, as shown on this incredible house.

The Cross House, tragically, did not appear to ever had roof cresting. but it did have wonderful finials. In addition to the two towers, there were five atop the two dormers, and three gables. There were two larger pineapple finials on the main roof.

The Cross House. Thrillingly, to the right is the one-story wing of the carriage house. It is topped by a large cupola/ventilator.

This circa-1910 image is the only one I have showing the roof end finials. See how they all kinda leap up into the sky? I love that.

WF Norman

WF Norman makes something close to the smaller finials. I would only need the end piece on the left.

Of course, this begs the question?

Should I recreate these, too?

You are actually only teasing us with this question, right? OF COURSE you should! 🙂

I was wondering if when you said you couldn’t have the finials on the main cementitious roof it had anything to do with the A word. I assume you can have them modify where it meets the roof to fit right over the ridge line pieces on the existing roof? Because if that can be done and there are no A word related hazards, you should go for it! I want to say don’t spread yourself too thin with pretty things that can go on anytime later, but I also really want to see those particular pretty things on your house now!

You’ve tempted me to see if WF Norman can make a similar hip finial for our house. It didn’t originally have one, but the similar house next to us did.
