Santa Lisa #3

Recently, I posted about Santa Lisa. This is her third gift: a pair of 1920s fixtures. This is the chandelier, intended for over a dining table. And this…

…is the surface-mounted fixture intended for a living room. Sets such as this were once common. This fixture has not yet been restored.

The fixtures are mostly cast metal. But what metal? I thinks it’s a copper/brass combination, or perhaps a copper/bronze combination. The fixtures are heavy!

Too too too gorgeous!

The ceiling canopies are also amazing. They have a lower vase, topped with a separate filigree piece. That the latter remains (on both fixtures!) is astonishing. Note, too, the gorgeous amber sphere finials! HOW are these still extant? Incredible.

Both fixtures were in horrible condition. It is obvious that each was stored away for many decades, as they were caked with dust and dirt. The surface-mounted fixture was also…argh!!!!…painted brown at some point. I have yet to remove this.

The chandelier was a nightmare to rewire. Some fixtures are like this, and it is obvious that the in-house lighting designer never collaborated with the in-house lighting electrician. Sigh.

I do not know who made the fixtures. There are no markings, and hours combing through my vast lighting catalogs produced no results. Poo.

In their day though, this set was $$$$. The quality is impressive.

Well, another BIG hug to Lisa!
