The door in the middle is, I think, the circa-1921 entrance into the Turret Room (now being made into a full bathroom). There is closet to the right. The 1921 entry is off its own vestibule (soon to be another closet). The rough opening, left, is the new Turret Room entry.
In the hallway, looking west. You can see the 1921 vestibule (rear, middle). See the door frame to the left? It, and the wall to its left, were added at some point. The left wall was originally a railing. So, the stair was OPEN. I love the idea of this but being able to close that door will do wonders in helping keep the first floor heated in the winter.
Squee! Relocated 1921 door frame!
Looking north. Newly relocated 1921 door frame and transom. This will create a new master suite foyer. The 1921 door frame matches the bedroom door frame. To the right is a door into what will be an expansive walk-in Master closet. Left, is the new opening into the Turret Bathroom. In short, the new foyer will have a door on each compass point. And…of course, dahlink!…a petite crystal chandelier above!
Hallway, north wall. I will be building a beadboard cabinet in the corner to hide the ductwork. The door is for the circa-1921 bathroom, soon to be the expansive walk-in Master closet. I will soon be removing the door frame as it will become the door into the turret bathroom…
…here. Left.
I would love to see some floor plan drawings of existing- and planned improvements!
Ditto! The Carriage House floor plan has always been an enigma.
Ditto to the ditto! I have no idea how things connect in the Carriage House.
Ditto to the ditto to the ditto! I’ve been fascinated by the carriage house floorplan for close to a decade now!
I third that! So confused ( see Ross, we too get confused). Any chance of a before and after sketch of the carriage house floor plan?
Hi, Linda! I did a post about the floor plans to the Carriage House 2022. Here. There have since been some minor changes.
Tiny typo: “Hallway, north wall. I will be building a beadboard cabinet in the corner to hide the ductwork. The door is for the circa-1921 bathroom, soon to be the expansive walk-on Master closet. I will soon be removing the door frame as it will become the door into the turret bathroom…”
I think “walk-on” should be “walk-in”
As always, feel free to delete this comment.
Thanks again, Barb!
My house was built in 1922 and my doors and doorways are framed the exact same way with those wide boards. I also have the same wide moldings on the bottom of the walls. I’ve got tall ceilings but I don’t have those transoms. I sure wish I did.
But I do have a Hopper window in my bedroom. I love it. I can open it for circulation but still maintain privacy as I have a curtain on the window. I have a pole with a special hook like we used to have in our classroom when I was in elementary school that I can use to open and shut that Hopper window. When I bought the house I thought it was weird but having lived with it I think it is brilliant. It’s high enough I can put my dresser under it and a mirror on the wall.
