Small Moves

Yesterday, I installed an electrical box in the second-floor servant’s hallway. The pipe sticking through it is an original gas line for the gas/electric sconce which was in this location in 1894, and will be again soon. The “remove” was written by the previous owner. The hallway currently has a non-original overhead light which I will delete.

This small move is part of the rewiring of the second floor. So far, the Round Room is done, the Octagon Room, Sewing Room, original 1894 bath, housekeepers room, and servant’s hallway. All that remains is the Long Room!

So, Bob wanted the gas line removed?

Wiring: So necessary, so sexy, and yet, so invisible. I love the posts about the tiny details that make up the whole of the project.

Yes, I agree. It’s these details that build the picture and tell the history and shine a light on the future of the home.

There are a couple of houses in ST. Joseph, MO. that still have a functioning gas light system. I saw where mine was disconnected in the basement and I always wanted to bring it all back online. Sigh.

Finally, a location that we don’t need to source a PAIR for…nor does it need to swivel.

    Praise be.
