The Cabinet Returning To Life

In the carriage house, there was this lovely cabinet tucked inside the enclosed south porch. I believe the cabinet was originally in the demolished pantry. I yanked the cabinet out in 2015, with plans to reinstall it in the kitchen proper.

Which I kinda sorta did a few months ago. It is not actually installed; just sitting in place. The wall behind it needed to be finished.

With the wall finished, and its upper portion wallpapered, and a new base built for the cabinet, I could at long last actually reinstall the cabinet.

For many years I have been holding onto a single roll of 1940s floral wallpaper. I have a thing for 1940s floral wallpaper.
The upper cabinet is not installed yet. It is just sitting in place. I will take it back down so as to finish its interior which will be a ton easier with it sitting on a work table.
I was not sure how to proceed though. Repaint the interior white? Or strip it down to wood and varnish? The latter would be a ton of work. Ross not happy.
Cody suggested painting it gray. Oh! I like that idea! Ross happy!
While I cannot know for sure the history of the cabinet, methinks it is now in its third incarnation in the kitchen.
Oh! And this was the first time I have ever wallpapered! I was kinda terrified as so many people report how difficult the process is. But I kept thinking: I just have this tiny bit to paper. How hard can it be?
And, as it developed, not hard at all.
Silly Ross!

It’ll be beautiful painted grey. Daniel Kanter of manhattan-nest.com has a similar age cabinet in his dining room with a lovely warm shellac finish on the exterior and a grey painted bead board interior. It’s really pretty.
Gray shelves will go beautifully with that gorgeous wallpaper. Good suggestion, Cody.
The cabinet is just beautiful!
I love the wallpaper on the interior! Painting the interior gray would be just spiffy! Painting gray instead of white, would make the cabinet stunning!
Cody is such a great inspiration with his plethora of ideas!
I love your brilliant ideas Ross and Cody makes such good suggestions!
Bravo!
I love that cabinet. I would like it in my house, or one just like it. Luckily for Cody, I think it would be too tall for my kitchen ceiling. The interior will be lovely in gray.
That wallpaper is gorgeous in that cabinet. I love seeing it restored little by little.
Agree, the paper is stunning. It’s going to look great in the kitchen!
Another skill added to Ross’ many talents. You and Cody are a good team.
I agree, if you’re not going to strip it, then paint it gray. White is so stark and not in keeping with the character of the house or cabinet in my little opinion. It really is a beautiful cabinet in any case.
Luv that cabinet and the wallpaper choice. I would rather wallpaper than paint. 🙂
That’s some awesome wallpaper Ross!
Wishing you a safe, happy, and healthy New Year, hopefully residing in Cross House.
Hugs!
Karen
That is lovely and will be even better once finalized.
I have a weakness for 20s/30s wallpaper. And light fixtures. And furniture. It’s the period of my house, which it looks like I will be spending the rest of my life in.
