The Forever Light

I had a light in storage.

I had a light in storage for a long time.

I had a light in storage for a long time because I, a very long time ago, took it apart, stripped it of the caked-on paint covering all the metal components, and then…just let it sit in a box for a very long time.

I had a light which was ignored while 795,628 other things were going on.

But now, I have a light…

…which is glorious again. The 1930s/1940s fixture is by the Markel Electric Corporation.

The shades are gorgeous. They have a kinda leaf detail which is…

…repeated in the glass stem. Nice.

The new polychrome finish is a dark gold with bright gold accents. Lovely!

There is something intensely satisfying about taking on a seemingly abandoned project and finishing it.

Yep.

As these words are written the fixture is hanging behind me in my office, lighted. I keep turning around in my desk chair and staring at it.

And my heart feels joyful.

For, something is just a bit better with the world.

Looks amazing! I especially love the matching details on the shades and glass stem, lights today are not made with half the lovely details and care.
