The Painting Begins!

h

High, high up, I have begun painting the Great North Wall! The blue moving pad is covering the brick chimney. I have to replace a shingle (upper left). The giant curved cornice incorporates the built-in gutters, which have all now been relined! NO MORE LEAKS!!!!!!!!

One of the great fun things about being high up on scaffolding is the close-up views. Wow. I will often spend a moment on the scaffolding, staring awestruck. NOTE: If you drew a vertical line in the center, all to the right was painted in 2014. Everything on the left I did this week. Today, I moved one level lower on the scaffolding.

Well, how exciting is this? I know you’ve been wanting to make this happen for quite a while, so forge on cyber friend! I’m sure all your followers feel the same and can’t wait to see the finished product. Oh and….stay safe on that scaffolding!

After pouring over your blog, a visit to the historic river town of Hannibal, Missouri yesterday had me looking at all those precious old ramshackled Victorian buildings in a different light. I kept imagining what some TLC and dedication to restoring details could accomplish.

Thank you for the up close look!

What is your plan for the north facade? Will you do the lower sections and then the roof areas or will you do section by section, working from the top down?

I am working from the top down on the scaffolding tower now.

Then I will be doing the very high gable end. Eek!

      Then I will work down.

I am in love with that shade of green! This is so exciting.

The green, and all the exterior colors, are the original 1894 colors. I found fragments, and had them computer matched.

And I love the colors, too!

I did get to drive by the house on Saturday before I needed to leave town (I’m super sad about having to leave early) and WOW. The house in person is SO impressive. I mean, the photos here are quite impressive too but nothing beats seeing it in person. It’s breathtaking and you can really tell that care and love went in to this project.
