Harrumph!
Today, Young Brian stopped by the Cross House.
As we talked he commented something to effect that I was not doing as many posts as when the blog was new in 2014.
This both startled and confused me.
I replied: “I do at least five posts a week, and often more. I know of no old house blogger who posts more.”
Brian nodded his head no.
Huh? Was Brian crazy? Or was I?
When I got back to my office I looked through my post history just for 2017. And was startled again.
There have been 206 days so far in 2017.
And I have done 235 posts on this blog in 2017.
Geez.
Well, at least one thing is now confirmed.
I am the crazy one.

I’m confused. 235 posts divided by 206 days = 1.14 posts per day, or slightly less than 8 per week. Brian’s the crazy one.
No, no, this time we should all agree with Ross.
BACK STORY:
I did this post yesterday. Shortly thereafter I was talking with my friend Patricia on the phone. While we talked, I received an email notifying me that Doug had sent in a comment. I said to Patricia: “Oh! My friend Doug just posted a comment! And he LOVES to razz me. So, I wonder what he wrote????????”
Then I read Doug’s comment.
And burst out laughing.
You sometimes post several times in one day on different topics, which is one thing I really like about your blog. I’m a big fan of “one topic, one post.”
Though I also like your longer posts with multiple sections under the same topic.
You seem to follow Dorothy Parker’s advice: posts that are long enough to cover the subject, and short enough to be interesting.
OK. I am now dying to know what the original Parker quote was!
Hah. I got it wrong. It was Winston Churchill who is credited with saying, “A good speech should be like a woman’s skirt: long enough to cover the subject but short enough to be interesting.” Dorothy Parker said, “Brevity is the soul of lingerie.”
You sometimes post 1-2 or even 3 times in one day & sometimes skip a day or two. Brian is confused. Neither are crazy. Ross you are the consummate & dedicated blogger! Of course you have your eccentricities too! That’s why we alll love you & your blog!!!
No, no!
Doing 235 posts in 206 days IS crazy!
Yes sort of cuckoo– but so what?? You’re having fun!! I like when you don’t have time to blog it’s ok and if you have lots to to share i.e. 1 or 2 or maybe 3 posts in a day. Ross is Ross & we love you just the way you are. So yeah 235 posts in 206 days is a bit cra-a-zy 🙂
I have noticed the recently-copious posting. Sometimes I can’t even keep up!
I look forward to them every time, though!
I have noticed this year you are streakier. Longer stretches with zero posts, then a few days of 2-3 posts per day. That’s fine, though. Say stuff when you have struff to say, don’t when you don’t. To do otherwise does not result in better content.
Hey you know what. We all know you are a very busy man who is dedicated to his real job, restoring a 100+ year old house, and posting on a blog. And all this being done by you all by yourself. So if you don’t post as often as you do, I would totally understand. I mean, come on, you have to have time for life, to be a healthy rounded person: maybe even time for a Significant Other. I would still be an avid reader of your post even with less posting. Life is life. You have to do something else uplifting; relaxing; vacationing; personal time; and not post, hey, I say go for it. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be here. I have you in my email. When I get your post I am right there with you. Don’t make posting a priority when you have more life to give somewhere else in any given moment.
Mary in Georgia.
Just my thoughts. Don’t get conflicted about this.
Mary said it well. I follow about 11-12 blogs, but you are the only one I try to check daily. Most of the others post 2-3 times per month, and a couple are averaging 5-6 posts per year. I’m sure that this blog has become almost like a living breathing thing to you, and that’s great in some ways. You’ve made friends you otherwise would have never known, and received our praise, criticism, and (often unsolicited) enthusiastic advice with good grace and humor. When you are busy, don’t worry about putting the Jeannie back in the bottle. We’ll all be here when you get time. 🙂
At least he didn’t say the Cross House has cobwebs. Ask him how many entries he has made in his blog. Keep up the good work. If you are having as much fun writing your posts, and enjoy them as much as I do, it must all of the reward you could possibly want.
Hi, Stewart!
What? Cobwebs???????? NOT in the Cross House!
While it IS crazy to post so often, particularly with the constant constraints on my time, I just love having a blog. I love doing posts. I love having a record of What Is Going On. I love having an idea, and then putting words and images to it.
I wish blogging had been available when I was 18!
I wish I could get it together to try my own blog. I can tell that you love it, have had fun writing it, receiving and returning replies, as well as being inspired to do more on the house and to write more posts by your interactions with those of us out there who are enjoying it with you. It’s like a positive feedback loop. Every participant is getting and giving such good stuff. WOW! We all want to “be your best friend” and make a contribution too. How could you not be receiving all sorts of spontaneous inspirations? Everything that you have done during your life is now just tying together, but producing real rewards. It could be the greatest natural high that there is. The crazy thing is that most of us were raised to think that something that produces this much good is to good to be true. Ergo we are crazy to think that we are crazy and at the same time, crazy to think we’re not.

Now I have just tied myself in a crazy knot.
Stewart said it beautifully!
See, just like that, Sandra gave me an incredible boost!
