Kenny Prepping

With Kenny scheduled to work on the house late this upcoming week, Ross needed to drag his ruined body out from under the bed to do the prep work required before Kenny arrives.

Power washing done! The ceiling will still need a bleach wash but Kenny said he could do that.

Rain does a good job of keeping houses clean. But porches prevent this self-cleaning. Here, my first spray. Wow. I also power-washed the north porch.

I thought the lap siding would be, after washing, ready to paint. Silly me! One board proved to be, literally, just several layers of paint as termites had eaten all the underlying wood. The adjacent boards were also damaged. This was caused by faulty downspouts/guttering way above. I fixed that several years ago and was relieved to discover nary a single termite, alive or dead. This is the west library wall.

And more prep. This is the south parlor wall. Of course, none of this prep work compares to the MASSIVE amount of work the second-floor south required.

Worry not, dear readers! My doctor wants me to be active. “Your body will heal quicker and better if you keep moving. Just don’t overdo it.” A lack of energy, of course, will assure that I do not overdodo.

Good for you, Ross. Keep plugging away and healing. My husband was in the hospital for four days with his pulmonary blood clots, so you’re ahead of the game.

I’m so glad that you are moving about. Being sedentary is never a good thing. Doing a bit of work wach day will help both physical and mental! So excited to see this painted!

What are you doing under the bed!!!??? You should be under the BED COVERS!! Get out from under that bed young man. You may rest more comfortably on TOP of the bed. Sorry, I was a school teacher for 17 years and that is the first thing that popped into my head when reading this. Take care of yourself.

Dear Ross; I have followed you for years, only commenting once. I am your “neighbor” in Garnett. Health caught up to me too, in 2017. I currently live in a charming Victorian rental; I suppose Queen Anne although one story. It is very tolerable regarding lack of remuddling, although wall to wall which I hate and my dog pees on so I guess he hates it too. I know what you are going through with the letdown in energy level. I always thought I had another restoration in me (Queen Anne KC Mo) but perhaps I do not. I would love to do a little work on my rental but it is perhaps not worth it; it’s pretty decent as is. What I really want to say is Hang In There. Your goal is genuine and your following massive. Your support is massive too. Take care. Susan

Like a wound that needs to heal the lungs need time to adjust, the body needs time to break down the clots. It will get better, Ross. You had surmounted challenges before, you can do this again. Also: hi Kenny! Such a wonderful gesture to help Ross out. More power to both of you.

Hello Ross. We’ve followed your blog for a while now, really enjoy your renovation of this great home. one suggestion would be to add video, perhaps a YouTube channel even? Let us know? More viewers, more fans, more income from viewers to assist with your progress…..hmmm?

It’s looking great! I love the work that you and your team have done on that porch more than words can say and I love the color you picked for the ceiling. And also yay for Kenny! I can sort of relate to physically only doing what you can. I am trying to recover from having bladder stones removed, then caught a nasty bout of Covid while in the hospital. I’m still coughing and hacking after 3 weeks, but I feel grateful I am recovering as not everyone got to do so. Now I have 3 more surgeries to go! I turned 65 this year and my body just started falling apart! Wtf? We’re also trying to move to the midwest to retire. What have to do is very little, sit down, do very little again, sit down.
Hang in there Ross, you’re actually doing really well!
