Reliving the Past

The west, second-floor tower window. This looked perfect eight years ago, after being restored and painted. Sigh.

Primed and ready for a fresh coat of paint. The window sashes also need rejuvenation.

Second-floor window sills primed. Click to enlarge.

Oh dear! That’s disheartening restoration only lasted 8 years.

    Soon to be spruced up!

    Hey, Ross.
Do you think the paint isn’t lasting as long as they say it should? Paint recently (10 years) has been crap in my opinion.

It’s like the Red Queen. Sometimes you’re running just to stay in place. It must feel like insanity, but it’s informing for you to show not only the restoration, but now what is essentially regular maintenance.

I read that two coats are highly recommended, and that high-quality paint should be sought.

Is it normal for paint to peel like this? Perhaps ask a local contractor, I wouldn’t know!

Good day Ross. Here in Scotland we say this is like the Forth Road Bridge. Painting the structure takes years , meaning once the end of the bridge is reached, it’s time to start again ….all a little like the Cross House. However I’m sure in no time you’ll have edges crisp and gleaming once more. Colin

Looks like a good day to do the work. I’m thankful you feel better. Amy is at the Wichita airport as I write these words.

Wonder if oil based paint is the trick for weather related protection. Goodness only knows I paint every year.
