The brass button means this was window #1. It had a screen. That also would have had a 1 button. So, when the house screens were removed for winter, they could easily be put back in place come spring. The whole house has these brass buttons but I never knew where #1 was until now. I love these kinds of discoveries and details.

On my 1900 house in St. Joe, I found my screens in the attic of my garage. They were in excellent condition, so it inspired me to take down the glass storms and install the screens, which made the house breathe fresh and wonderful in the spring and fall. I then could refresh the winter storms that hadn’t been touched in over 10 years. The current owners couldn’t care less. 🙁
