CH: Day 104

I replaced the rotted shingles under the turret door. I also put metal flashing under the shingles to the left of door, finally stopping water from getting into the wall. The unpainted horizontal trim just above the white siding is NOT the artful installation of the crown previously installed but just a 1×4 and a 2×3 stuck in place. It will get removed when the porch roof is installed. Once painted I do not think it will register as not-quite-right. Note the finished corner trim, right.
For now, the turret door will get painted white, and the door frame will get painted in the dark gray. The door will be removed when the porch roof is built, and the wall shingled over.
Inside the turret the three windows are obviously a ‘bay’. Putting a 4th window in place on the north wall will imbalance the room, methinks.

Squee! I love that this ancient trim has been removed from decades of storage and its rightful place in society restored.

I also finished stripping the Secret Bedroom window frame, far right. Soon, PAINT! Soon restored gloss black window sashes! These were finished well over a year ago and have been sitting in the bedroom.

Glad you are making such great progress!!
You are so lucky that the water table trim was stored rather than tossed or burned. It would have cost a mint to have that milled and the wood quality probably wouldn’t be as good as the original.
You are so very close.
Question… on the front of the house, where you are currently working above the water table trim. Is it optical illusion or are the two bigger windows totally different sizes? The one on the left was a window, then a door and now a window again?
Hi, June!
I’m not sure I understand.
Above the newly re-installed water-table trim are three windows.
LEFT: A large window that was a door.
MIDDLE: A small window weirdly high up.
RIGHT: The Secret Bedroom window, which is like half the width of the LEFT window.
Ross… yes I was asking about the size of the left one… it allows for so much light into the entry space, yet from the outside my eyes say it should be the same size as the far right. That would be a lot of framing to make that possible, both exterior and interior work. I love natural light wherever possible.
What is the “small window weirdly high up”? Is that on the stairs?
Hi, Brian! The small window rests on the stair landing. It’s a great place for dog/cats.
