A Kinda Fun Oopsie

A few years ago I finally got around to finishing the south wall of the parlor (right), and valiant Kenny showed up on horseback to paint a lot of the porch ceiling. A while later I realized that I painted the south wall in the wrong color! Egads! The color is the actual original siding color! The color to the left is what I have been using to paint the whole house. I realized though in 2017 that this was not the original color but the second color. Anyway, I had been planning to repaint the south wall to match the rest of the house but have now decided to leave my goof in situ because I enjoy seeing what the actual original color scheme was, and because this will be a fun thing to talk about while giving tours.

The slightly lighter original color looks great but does not quite work with the ceiling color. The original porch ceilings were a VERY pale olive. In the 1890s, lilac and purple porch ceilings were popular and I wanted to bring this back because nobody paints their porch ceilings in such colors anymore. Note: Blue became the basic default color in the 1920s.

Looking forward to visiting some day and when we get to this part asking- “Tell me, what was the thinking in choosing these two colors here? They don’t seem to work with each other.”

Now that an explanation was given, guests will not think that the color difference is due to the sunlight. 😉

Kinda nice to have a nod to the original color.

    A serendipitous oopsie.
